Louise and I enjoyed a great trip to Ireland last May. Dublin is a "swinging," youthful city! A recent note from George Munroe commenting on the death of Warren Preece noted: "Warren had the unique experience of editing, and leading a staff of 360 people in producing the Encyclopaedia Britannica's 15th edition in 1974-the first overall redo in 45 years. The only similar effort I know of is the development of the first edition of the Dictionary of the English Language. That took years to do." Another notable '43 achiever who died in April was Bud Kast, who served so many years as head class agent for the College Fund. His successor in that role, Bing Donaldson, recently wrote and described Bud as the "chief hero of our class, captain of the football team senior year and a 60-minute player in the famous 'fifth-down' Cornell game." A brief note from Bud Miskell indicated Cape Cod spring was cold and late—not unusaland added an e-mail address, indicating he had enlisted in the computer age. Bob Ehinger, while in Vero Beach, visited with Bob Fuiks and his wife, Theresa. Also, he mentioned seeing Swifty Barnes 42, advising me that he is my summer neighbor in Yarmouthport. On the trip north Bob and Joan also visited Dick Livingston and his wife, Shirley. Dick, an engineer, is seeking ways to lessen our dependence on petroleum-based gasoline. Two other death notices just received: Thomas McManus and John W. Cook. Our condolences to the families. Keep well!
