In my recurring quest for news items I must have hit the jackpot when I received the following from Al Ferguson up in Pittsburgh. "I'm getting my fourth honor this fall [October 2007]. We've been honored for our contribution to orthopedic surgery. The prize has been given to several other people whom you may have recognized by name, Jonas Salk, C. Everett Koop (former U.S. surgeon general), etc. We've been honored for our contribution to orthopedic surgery, in the development of artificial hips and knees and for training an enormous number of or thopedic professors the world over." Another report from the Keystone State is a cheerful note that Bob Feller, the art expert, is still garnering awards for his work in research on the deterioration of artists' material. That's a long way from producing cartoons for the Jack-O-Lantern. He confessed that some of his lab work in Mellon Institute requires after-hours monitoring, so he has keys for all the doors. No problems!

Bill Best answered the phone from his home in Williamsburg, Virginia. He and Marian said they have adjusted nicely to life in that area. He was formerly heavily involved in the Outer Banks of North Carolina but had a delicate ear operation in April that hampers his sailing activity. We wish them well. Stacey Hill came through loud and clear from his home in Wilsonville, Oregon, where he settled with his family of nine children. Stace can no longer play tennis or golf after his hip replacement and bursitis problem but he keeps busy following daily financial news on his computer.
