We send glad, wintry tidings from snowy New England. While many of us are awaiting the annual thaw, perhaps no one is more excited about springtime and spring training than the new vice president of Red Sox Nation, Rob Crawford. You read it right. The team launched an online contest for president of this worldwide band of diehard fans, and no one campaigned harder than our boy Robby. The initial list of 100 nominees was cut down to 25, then 10, who squared off in a televised debate, moderated by Tim Russert. The groundswell of the campaign peaked when Pulitzer Prize-winning author/historian Doris Kearns Goodwin withdrew from the race and threw her support behind "Regular Rob." Ultimately, when the thousands of online votes were counted, Rob lost to former Red Sox player and longtime broadcaster Jerry Remy. In his first official presidential act, Rem Dawg appointed Rob as his VP. To check out more about the insanity, and to read Robs blog, go to http:// imamemberofredsoxnation.mlblogs.com.
Avra (Jordano) Alter writes from the heart of Red Sox country, Concord, Massachusetts. She's part of a three-doctor obstetrics practice, delivering babies at all hours of the day and night. She and her husband, Steven, just had their own in July. Sarah joins older bother Noah (7) and big sis Hannah (4). She adds, "Life is a bit crazy, but a lot of fun."
Give a rouse for Annie Sundberg, who's received critical acclaim for her latest documentary film, The Devil Came on Horseback. (She co-directed it with Rikki Stern '87.) The film centers on a former Marine captain who worked for the African Union as an unarmed monitor in Darfur in 2004-2005. The New York Times describes the film as "brutal, urgent, devastating" and that it "demands to be seen as soon as possible and by as many viewers as possible." Lofty praise, indeed.
That's all for now. Please feel free to drop us a line, if the mood strikes.
