Several days ago my mind wandered to 20 years ago when I (Bill Levin) traversed a weathered, mountainous trail in New Hampshire along with six other incoming '90 freshmen. Wherever life has you and yours this summer, I hope your traversing continues.
A fellow traveler on that freshman trip with me, Mike Brown and Therese (Devlin) Brown will celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary in 2006! Mike writes, "We live in Erie, Pennsylvania, and are blessed with four children Claire (8), Grace (6), Andrew (3) and Luke (1). Therese is busy homeschooling our two oldest girls. I work at Penn States Behrend College here in Erie, where I teach and do research in leadership and business ethics. Despite the lake-effect snow, we really enjoy Erie."
We tracked down Dr. Fraser Leversedge in Denver, Colorado, where he lives with his wife, Kim (Isaacs) '92, and their three daughters Chelsea (9), Haley (5) and Riley (9 months). Fraser is a partner with Hand Surgery Associates and is enjoying life in private practice and a continuing involvement in academics through research and teaching as a faculty instructor with various professional societies. Fraser e-mails, "I was fortunate to be a site physician for the basketball venue at the Athens Olympics—I saw more basketball than I ever thought I would see in my lifetime! Soccer has been reduced to that of supporting my daughters, but I have enjoyed spending time playing golf, tennis and in goal for a mens hockey team! (Ben Forbush would find it hard to believe that I am actually a member of a local golf club!)"
Michiel Sanson is also in Denver, byway of N.Y.C., Philadelphia and Amsterdam. Michiel and his wife, Randy, met at Wharton and are preparing for their 10th wedding anniversary this summer. They have three children: twins Samantha and Elisabeth (8) and Max (6). Mike works at R.H. Donnelly, a yellow pages media company, and notes that he got 25 days of skiing in this past winter.
Another doctor and father of twins, Mike Shlipac is a medical researcher and internal medicine physician at UCSF Medical School in San Francisco, where he has lived since 1995. Mike notes, "Research is a great life, as it combines creativity and passion, with flexible work hours and daily excitement. My wife, Anda Kuo '91, is a pediatrician at UCSF also. We have three childrendaughter Kailee (5) and boy/girl twins Kyan and Kaira (2.5 years). We are both consumed by the balance of two careers and family, but in the big picture, life is fantastic."
Kathy Heafey updated our billowing mailbag: "My husband and I made a return trip to Colombia (from Minneapolis) in the fall of 2005 to adopt our second child, Daniel Marron Sampsell. Danielito is thriving, as is his big sister Gabriela (4). I continue to work three days a week as a marketing manager at General Mills, currently on new product development for Progresso soup. Parttime work has been a great fit for me. In the cracks between work and home, I also have become a triathlete. I'm lucky to have several Dartmouth '90s nearby: Elizabeth Burnett (three kids), Sarah Fjelstul (two daughters) and Beca (Solberg) McPhearson (three daughters). It's great that our kids play frequently —Elizabeth and I even shared a nanny for awhile. John Luedke (one daughter) also works as an attorney at General Mills. Pete Somerness (three sons) works locally for Guidant."
Wow, 27 children in one column is a lot of traversing! If you get to Boston, let me know, the drinks will be on me.
