Greetings from New England, where the ball fields are filled with kids again and the gardens and parks are bursting with color. Three thousand miles to the west, Geoff Coco reports from Seattle. He writes, "Chris Widdess finally got married in December to Alana Steingold in Chicago. While sloshy and blustery outside, the indoor wedding was warm and celebratory with a generous helping of Gamma Delts on hand. Sharif Mahdavian and wife Stacy, Tim Douros, Dave Goals, Chip Brady, Tim and Stacey Kolk, Brendan and Becky Mullaly all rallied for the occasion."
"Half the '90s I know have kids and most are in double-digit ages by now. But only eight days after my 40th birthday in January I finally got to experience the joy of a child first-hand. Little Julia Coco has been keeping Susanna and me very tired and happy since then. Besides the new arrival I am still immersed in digital media, currently a product manager in online video advertising at Microsoft." Nice work, Geoff.
William Boulware checks in from Chicago with a tale of rags to riches. A real estate development firm convinced him to leave a job in Wisconsin that he'd held for a decade. It folded a year later, leaving William "unemployed, without health care and turning 40." Here's the happy ending: He writes, "following my instincts and some encouragement from one of the VPs, I and one of the directors opted to take control of the company, negotiate the elimination of lingering liability and used the goodwill we had established to make the company productive." They've already successfully redeveloped a hotel and resort in Mississippi. And the next project is on the horizon.
On a personal note, William still travels and plays volleyball competitively. He's in touch with Gwen Pointer, who works as the VP of marketing for the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA, and Kyle Blood, who's running his own design firm based in New York and the Hamptons.
Suzy Svatek Ziegler writes with some great news. She co-authored Landscapes of Minnesota: A Geography, published just in time for Minnesota's sesquicentennial in May. The book traces the development of the states natural environment, how the land formations, plants and animals became a part of its fabric, and how they have changed over time. Suzy is an assistant professor of geography at the University of Minnesota.
Have a great summer as the countdown to the 20th reunion continues.
