Happy Earth Day, everyone. We’re light on news so I’ll do my part by conserving column inches this month. I am happy to report that Dan Garodnick married Zoe L. Segal-Reichlin last May at the Atlantica in Westhampton Beach, New York. Dan is a New York City councilman representing District 4 on the east side of Manhattan, where he also serves as the chairman of the land use subcommittee on planning, dispositions and concessions. Before he was elected councilman Dan was an attorney with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
And Sam von Trapp was recently featured on the front page of The New York Times. It seems after teaching alpine skiing in Colorado and Chile, surfing in Brazil, modeling for Ralph Lauren, appearing in the Sports Illustrated for Women “Sexiest Men in Sports” swimsuit issue and being featured in People magazine’s “50 Most Eligible Bachelors” issue, Sam has returned to his family’s lodge in Stowe, Vermont, to take over the reins from his father, Johannes ’63. Opened in 1950 as a 27-room lodge, today the Trapp Family Lodge is situated on 2,400 acres and encompasses 96 rooms and suites, 100 timeshare guesthouses, 14 fractional-ownership villas, three restaurants, a Nordic ski center and a maple sugaring operation.
In addition to improving the resort’s hiking and skiing trails, since his return Sam has also been focusing on snowmaking, including the use of a portable snowmaker for cross country skiing. Future plans also include establishing a visitor center and family museum; however, in keeping with his family’s tradition of stewardship, Sam will balance all new development with a need for conservation.
Enjoy your own personal conservation efforts this April 22 and every day.
