Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well. To start with couples news, Liz Keenan got engaged to Jesse Tichenor ’06 this fall! They’re planning to get married in June at the Lodge. Shirley West married Joshua Ibach of Fredonia, New York, on September 19, 2008. She is working as assistant lifestyles editor and reporter at the local newspaper, the Dunkirk Observer.
Lindsay Zahradka wrote to say that she is finishing her second year of law school at Fordham University and living in Midtown West. She’ll be working for law firm Akin Gump Strauss & Hauer next summer in the New York office. Her classmate Deborah Wassel is also in her second year at Fordham Law and planning on working in the district attorney’s office this summer. She is a member of the trial advocacy team, which recently won the national championship at the Stanford Mock Trial Invitational Tournament.
Caitlin Potratz is also in law school. She has been in D.C. for the past year and a half completing a J.D./M.A. at the Washington College of Law. She writes, “In October I ran my first marathon, the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon, with the nonprofit organization Asha for Education. I also ran the Virginia Beach and Baltimore half marathons, fundraising a total of $1,275 for the Sanctuary Schools project, which benefits tribal children in the rural Chittoor District in Andhra Pradesh, India.”
Ione Curva is applying to law school and just quit her job to travel around Europe (mainly Oxford, London and Madrid). She says it’s pretty fun not working and just sleeping in, eating, shopping and hanging out.
Oceana Castañeda has escaped the winter in Maine and traveled to Mexico, where she has been teaching English in Cuernavaca and traveling around to visit family.
Samantha Ferguson recently moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to work at the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum as the executive assistant. She did this after spending a year at the National Museum of American Indian working as the assistant to the contemporary art program in Washington, D.C.
Dan Racic is in his second year of teaching at an elementary school in the Bronx and is finishing his M.A. this year as well. He is planning on teaching a third year at his current school.
Yuki Kondo-Shah is currently working in undergraduate admissions at Stanford University as an admissions officer. She is living with Cara Yang, who works for the XBox team for Microsoft. They encourage people to visit them in Mountain View, California.
Cory Cornelius was one of the 42 students who were recently recognized by Google for their outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments in the computer science field. Google has partnered with the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic College Fund and the American Indian Science & Engineering Society to create these scholarship programs. Each of the students will receive a $10,000 academic scholarship from Google, as well as an invitation to attend the all-expenses-paid Annual Google Scholars’ Retreat held at the Googleplex in Mountain View.
Ambika Singh is still basking in the blazing sun in beautiful Seattle. She just took a new job within Microsoft to do product marketing for the Windows 7 launch. She says, “I got the chance to travel a ton in 2008 and visit lots of Dartmouth friends—Nicaragua, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Maui, New York, Paris, Boston, Utah, India, Korea, Kauai, Whistler and of course… Hanover! I hope everyone is doing well and I’ll see you at Green Key!”
