Each spring President and Mrs. Wright host several receptions and dinners at the Hanover Inn honoring the senior class. This year five were given in April. We attended one and, as always, found it fascinating to hear of students’ plans and hopes. One of the students at our table had just learned she was accepted at Columbia School of Journalism and one wants to travel for a year, while two hope to find work for several years before applying to law school. In the Daniel Webster Room tables are set up for 10, including two alumni, for interaction during the dinner.

During the spring we had delightful communications with John C. Cavanagh ’55, son of our classmate Dr. James E. “Ellie” Cavanagh. In one letter he enclosed an Aegis of 1884 and a copy of the Winter Carnival edition of Jack-O-Lantern. We have both had hours of pleasure reading through them. One joke to share. In the waiting room, the doctor to the absentminded professor: “It’s a boy, sir.” Professor: “What is?”

The Special Collections at Rauner Library will be pleased to receive the Aegis and also the daybook Larry Lougee kept of his Dartmouth expenses while a student from 1925-29.

A romantic antic from Rip: “Now when I lie awake at night I know my stomach isn’t right I do not offer a suggestion That thoughts of you bring indigestion But still nonetheless is true I lie awake and dream of you.”
