On July 17 the Women of Dartmouth-D.C. organized a berry-picking and picnicking event for Dartmouth Club of Washington, D.C. (DCW), members at Butler’s Orchard Farm Market in Germantown, Maryland. The orchard also features a nature trail and giant slides. Participants were asked to wear Dartmouth gear or green to identify members of the group at this family-friendly outing. Among the nearly 30 alumni, family members and guests attending were Katherine Attie ’92, Laura Basford ’03, Tricia Dillon, DMS ’86, Katie Drossos ’04, Denise Hansberry ’85, Late Schuerman ’05, Jodie Lee ’00, Jay Matson ’91, Saleela Salahuddin ’02, Laurel Shanks ’95, Meg Sommerfeld ’90, Rose Wang ’14 and Stephanie Wood-Garnett ’92. Saleela Salahuddin was the organizer of this event.
DCW and the Young Alumni of Dartmouth Association (YADA) co-sponsored a young alumni boat cruise on the evening of July 22. Alums from the classes of 2006 through 2016 took a two-hour waterborne tour with an open bar and delicious appetizers originating at Georgetown Waterfront Park and sailing past D.C.’s monuments. Lipsa Panda ’14 and Danielle Jellerette ’13 organized this popular (and sold-out) annual event.
On the evening of August 4 the Dartmouth Lawyers Association hosted a reception in downtown San Francisco during the annual American Bar Association convention. Featured guests included U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California Brian Stretch ’86, former general counsel of Apple and Oracle Corps., Dan Cooperman ’72, retired California Superior Court Judge Quentin Kopp ’49 and former U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California Kevin Ryan ’80. The no-charge event was organized by Ben Riley ’79 and conducted at the law firm of Barko, Zankel, Bunsel & Miller. Other alumni attending included Valerie Armento ’73, Alex Chiu ’78, Sam Coffey ’78, Pam Egan ’82, George Hammond ’75, Alexa Hansen ’04, Jennifer Hendrick ’88, Samuel Kohn ’09, Colleen Lamarre ’07, Michael Lisi ’90, Joanna Lowry ’86, Karen Masterson Dienst ’82, Stephen Melikian ’76, Howard Morse ’81, Jonathan Rubens ’85, Rick Sharpless ’79, Alex Shepard ’92, Chris Wanger ’87, Jeff Wutzke ’88 and Michael Zischke ’77.
On June 18 the Dartmouth Club of New York (DCNY) held its fourth annual pong tournament at the Ml-5 Lounge on Walker Street in lower Manhattan. More than 60 participants and spectators enjoyed four hours of pizza, open bar and competitive pong (water or soda drink options available). On June 25 DCNY members worked two shifts cooking and serving food at St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen on Sixth Avenue in Greenwich Village. Soh Won Cha ’04 organized this service event.
On August 20 from noon to 3 p.m. the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston held its annual “Welcome/Send-Off” picnic welcoming the newest alumni of the class of 2016 and sending off the members of the class of 2020 to their first-year trips in Hanover. The event was held in Arsenal Park along the Charles River in the Watertown area of Boston. Bill Ragan ’82 was the organizer of this event.
The Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley (DCUV) celebrated summer with outdoor events such as a trail hike and picnic lunch on June 30 at the Class of ’66 Lodge in Etna, New Hampshire, that was organized by Chuck Sherman ’66. On August 7 DCUV members and guests held a picnic and barbeque at the Ledyard Canoe Club in Hanover, organized by Clark Griffiths ’57. DCUV sent off its class of 2020 members with a first-year students barbeque on August 19 at the DOC House on Occom Pond. This send-off event (less than one mile from Robinson Hall, where the first-year trips begin) was organized by John Engelman ’68.
