HERE AND THERE
At last the Chicago dinner is history and according to Johnny Page it was a howling success. Due to the smallness of numbers we combined' with '38, but let John tell about the proceedings "Well, we finally had our Chicago class get-together and it was well worth the trouble. Held at Ricardo's Studio Restaurant with the '3Bers, their wives and our dates, it was indeed a very enjoyable group of some forty-odd. Thanks to 'Stink' Davis '38 football pictures were shown The '39ers present: Chuck Farnum and Jack Stewart were able to get away from their medicine and exams. 'Jumpin' Joe Urban who is hard at work teaching five classes of English at the Elgin Academy just outside of Chicago was a welcome visitor. There is a good story about Joe of how he got off the train here on his first time westward and remarked, 'Gee, I'll be able to whip right out to California on a week-end now and then.' Bud Clifford was his ever pleasant self 'Old Stud' Larkin, famed for his elbows, was in high gear down at the head of the table. Bob MacLeod got away from his pro-basketball with the Chicago Bruins and Joe Batchelder from his books of law. Surprise of the evening was Jim Sampson dropping in, having just been shifted out here by the Armstrong Cork Corp. Naturally the evening couldn't be a success without Jim Donovan and others of our small group present were Bill Martin, Roy Demmon, Jack Leslie, Earle Stevenson, Bill Buge and Tommy Vent."

DOWN THE AISLE
This may be news to many of the brethern since it all happened way back in 1939—September gth to be exact, however for the benefit of those who haven't heard —here it is. Again it will be a Big Green wedding, and again it is the sister of a '39er. Bozo Noland started the ball rolling by his recent marriage to Janie Kiefaber, Warner's sister. Now, congratulations are in order to Lou Oldershaw for his engagement to Virginia Wakelin, Ed's pretty little sister. Virginia will have to brush up on her argumentative powers what with Lou turning into quite the budding barrister at Yale Law.
From John "Egghead" Egbert, who is also at Yale Law and Lou's roomie there, comes the news that shortly before Xmas "Hass" Warrener announced his engagement to Miss Florence Howard of Cincinnati—no definite wedding date has been set as yet. "Egghead" writes another bit of interesting news—"—I recently saw Mr. and Mrs. Bozo Noland in Atlanta, Georgia, and both seemed to be still enjoying one another. You Delta Tau's can bid farewell to Hank Merrill for he finally got Miss Mary Lois Igleheart to say yes. At present Mary is attending Wheaton and Hank, as you know, is at M. I. T.—quite convenient we call it. Incidently, we're waiting for that big announcement from Lar Dilkes."
Lastly, comes another late bit of news. Ralph Folsom (better known as "Joe" to his Barbary Coast colleagues) was married to Miss Rita W00d.... the time—way back on August Bth, last, and the place—Lake Placid, New York. DO YOUR PART IN THE ALUMNI FUND DRIVE.
WRITER OF THE MONTH
A long lost letter from Howie Rowe finally reached yours truly after having been sent to most every city (except St. Paul) in the country. As it brings news of our flooded friends on the coast I think it is worthy of attention all by itself "In reply to your plea for more news 'from Chicago on West,' here are a few notes from the shores of the Pacific. As far as I know, '39 in the San Francisco area is composed of only two fellows—Jack Gray and myself. Jack is putting his Tuck learning to use at West-Holliday, Inc. a firm of newspaper publishers' advertising representatives. He spent last summer and fall working at the San Francisco World's Fair, but has always wanted to get into the advertising game. As for the writer, I spent last summer in Hartford, trying to pick up the rudiments of the insurance business and since last September have been in the San Francisco branch office of the Maryland Casualty Co....At present I'm underwriter in charge of the plate glass and burglary depts., and finding the work very interesting. It consists mostly of handling new business and renewals, making local inspections and interviewing agents and brokers Of our own class, not so much is known. Spent an evening a while ago with Don Lieber and Al Green in Los Angeles. Don is working at Occidental College for his teaching credentials, and Al is connected with Wilson & Co., meat packers. Had a letter from Pat Locke who is basking in the Puerto Rican sunshine, and teaching Spanish at a military school in Rio Piedras, R. R Well, that about winds up the news from the Golden Gate. Jack and I are hoping that some of the fellows will be visiting the Fair this summer, and we extend an invitation to any and all to drop in on us." REMEMBER THE ALUMNI FUND.
THE CLEARING HOUSE
I believe I express all our feelings when I say that heartiest congratulations are due Bert MacMannis for his great start on the '39 Alumni Fund Drive. Much credit is also due Dick Jackson and Pete Cardozo for their editions of College Fodder. Even though they're stealing a lot of my potential news I must say I'm learning a lot from them. With the start that Bert and the boys have made I can only make one more plea for our wholehearted support of their efforts. Naturally the College doesn't expect us to donate more than our income will permit, but every little bit counts, and most important lets make '39 a 100% class. DONATE TO THE ALUMNI FUND.
Soon after you receive this edition I shall be on my way to Hanover for the annual Secretary's Meeting. Any suggestions that you have toward the improvement of the class and the alumni group as a whole and especially the column will be gratefully received. Let's hear from you.
