Well, here I am back in harness once again, and if you don't believe I was in the Navy let the picture be my proof (I'm really not that tough). After reading the Cardozos' grand articles I really feel guilty about taking over again, in fact its darned nervy of me. However, we certainly do owe Peter and his very talented Barbara a great big vote of thanks for coming to the rescue and doing such a remarkable job.

HERE AND THERE

An interesting note from Bill Tucker— "Recently in New York I ran across Wally Davis who has been keeping a very watchful eye on a pretty young lass in Westchester of late. At a Pelham function were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Beatty, better known as the 'Blissful Beattys', and looking very social and well groomed were inseparables Don Wheaton and Bob Dickgieser. Spent an evening with Walt Magee and managed to gather that he's quite the young executive at Bambergers specializing in men's hosiery and making the salesgirls cry. Stopped off in Wallingford, Conn., on my way to Boston to see Wolf Naylor who is teaching CAA flying to the little Yale boys. Said he started out with ten students and now has nine."

Many of the boys have decided to get the jump on the draft and among them are—Austin Igleheart, Jim Donovan, Buzz Waters, Hank Welton and Bill Kent on active duty with the Marines—"Ige" in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "Dono" in San Diego, Buzz and Hank in Philly and Bill in training at Quantico. Jim Feeley, Larry (Dilkes) Vulte, Bud Foster and Bart Jones (in Pearl Harbor) flying for the NavyJim also being an assistant athletic director at Pensacola. Besides myself the Navy has claimed Earl Seely, Joe Batcheldor (with the Pacific fleet), "Dusty" Rohde, Warner Kiefaber, Bob Catherine, Johnny Lee, Art Larkin and John Gauntlet. Then there is Dave Shilling who writes that he is with the Army Air Corps, 33rd Pursuit Squadron, Mitchell Field, Long Island and having a devil of a time keeping from getting shot by rookie sentries. Lloyd Nash reveals that he's flying with the Army in Montgomery, Alabama—and Herb Vander Vate is currently with the Coast Artillery somewhere in Georgia, while Gordon McCoun is with New York's famed Squadron A also in the South.

DOWN THE AISLE

News just arrived that Joe Urban finally took the big step with Miss Harriet Downs of Smith and Northwestern. The day was December 28 and Moose Dudas one of the ushers. The Urbans are now happily settled in Elgin, Ill. where Joe is teaching at the Elgin Academy. December 28th must have been 'ggers-Get-Married-Day, for Jim Sampson also took the vows with Miss Eleanor Rice, Colby J.C.'37-the place Brattleboro, Vt.— those present-Georgie Hanna, Jack "Marry'Em" Cumming, "Spot News" Harrison, "Admiral" Mattlage, Dick Brooks, Bob Jessup and "Poke Check" Marriam. Shame on you Georgie, but I won't tell. "Sampo" is now with the Detroit branch of Armstrong Cork.

Danny Hull writes that he was recently married to Miss Janice Tyack and is now reporting for the Waterbury (Conn.) American. Jan. sth marked the marriage of Al Abbott to Miss Harriet Waterbury of Springdale, Conn., while Pete Patterson witnessed the ceremony as best man. From various sources we learn of Johnny Page's wedding to his sweetheart of many years- Miss Ellen Smith of Camp Hill, Pa Johnny and Ellen are now at home in the Marshall Field Apts., Chicago-'39ers welcome. Space will not permit revealing the many engagements of our brethren, so I'll save them until next month.

WRITER OF THE MONTH

Stan Brown gives us this month's prize- and a newsy letter it is "As you know I'm in my second year at Cornell Law (Ed. Note; Stan stands fourth in his class), and am trying to beat the draft long enough to get my degree, but at present that seems highly improbable inasmuch as I hit the jack pot with number 66. Right now I'm thinking seriously of quitting law and joining the Air Corps for four years and believe me it's a tough decision to make

About '39ers I've met—ran into Bill Parkhill in Syracuse not so long ago—he's putting some of his Thayer School knowledge to work with the New York Central. Saw Fred Upton, Bill Carter and Gene King when visiting Harvard Law a while backFred, incidently, is on Legal Aid, an honor accorded only the highest law students, but it looks as though the draft has caught up with him too. It might interest you to know that Keith Anderson and Henry Glovsky are also doing well at Harvard Law. By the way, grapevine reports out of Yale Law have Lou Oberdofer up in the first ten of his class and I also hear that Lou (High Marks) Highmark is living up to his name at Columbia Law.

Last Xmas I ran into Jim Powers earnestly shopping in a 5 and 10 and from all reports Jim has really been around since graduation—even being a jailer at one point. At present he's with the New Hampshire Highway Commission. I also recall having seen Bill Green recently sitting on his you-know-what, still drawing pay from the New Hampshire Tobacco Tax Commission Saw Ernie Fetske in the Dartmouth Club bar in New York—as I had been there longer than he, I don't recall with clarity the details of our discussion—he looks darned prosperous though. When last heard from Kim Ayres was digging a tunnel under the Hudson River with the Utah Const. Co., and also had signed up with the Naval Reserve along with Herb Mattlage We had a Dartmouth party here last month in celebration of the Dartmouth-Cornell basketball game. About fifty of us put on our beer drinking caps and among those present were Sid Curtis, working in Binghamton, N. Y Van Lee, doing grad work here in Ithaca- Pete Patterson still in law with me, but thinking seriously of putting to use his reserve officer's commission and go into active service—Bill (Call Me Papa) Deal was also present and anxiously awaiting the arrival of twins—he is in the Hotel School here and doing great work.

No more news except that Gus Zitrides is all set for another year of coaching the Cornell line. Gus is fine and really producing here.

THE CLEARING HOUSE

May I make another plea for pictures— anything which might be of interest to the class will be most welcome. C'mon one of you candid fiends—get operating.
