Fine letter from Putty Blodgett with clipping enclosed of Ken Ward's death. Putty writes "It was my pleasure to know him and his splendid family fairly well since I've been in Vermont, and his death is a great loss to his family, his friends and his state The War is hitting this section very hard. Everyone that is able has been drafted or gone off for war work until there is none left but 'culls' as one girl put it the other day. Things have been handled very badly from a food angle, and I honestly believe there will be a serious food shortage next year. Farm after farm is being sold out or closed up due to lack of help and when they are once closed they are out of production for the rest of the war as machinery is strictly rationed and there isn't enough for them to be equipped again. In this little town there are about 200 cows less than a year ago and more are going all the time. There isn't a week that goes by without one or two farms selling out." Thanks for your fine letter, Putty.
