Those of you who can remember the allpowerful softball team fielded by The Dartmouth editorial board during undergraduate days must also remember that famous double-play combination of Koenig to Harvey to Bolte. That was a trio that could make all the plays and today they are still turning in outstanding performances.

Julian Koenig, the former shortstop, is of course president of Papert, Koenig & Lois, one of the country's fastest growing advertising agencies and the only agency whose stock is listed on the American Stock Exchange. In addition to coming up with the big ideas and having a hand in turning out copy that sells, Julian is running his agency as administrative head. At first base, Chuck Bolte is an outstanding figure in the publishing business as vice president of Viking Press on Madison Avenue of New York. The latest of the trio to make headlines is my old roommate, the second sacker, Bob Harvey, who has recently been appointed editor of "Changing Times," the well-known magazine published by the Kiplinger organization in Washington, D. C. Bob has been doing a fine job for the Kiplinger people for many years and has played a major role in building "Changing Times" into a really widely-circulated and potent media. Bob's son, Mike, will be a freshman next year in the class of 1969 and we look forward to seeing him set some pool records in Hanover. His two daughters, Martha and Sally are considered topnotch swimmers too.

Congratulations to Bill Hotaling whose appointment as manager of sales for Bethlehem Steel Corporation's St. Louis district sales office was announced in January. Bill had been assistant manager of plate sales at the home office in Bethlehem since 1960. Bill joined Bethlehem after graduating from Dartmouth. From May 1942 until a year later he was assigned to the operating department as an expediter in the armor plate division. After service in the Army, he returned to the company in the home office sales division. In May 1946 he was transferred to the New Haven district sales office where he worked until 1960. Thanks to class treasurer Stew Steffey for that information about Bill. Stew works for another small steel company, you know.

Winsor Watson who is a senior VP at G. M. Basford Co., New York advertising agency, has recently been named creative director of that fine shop. Win must be as busy as a one-arm paper hanger for within the past year his agency established a marketing planning department to provide services on industrial marketing programs with Win in charge. He is continuing as head of that department.

Ray Hayes, a tried and true son of Massachusetts, is now living in Holden, Mass., and has been a Selectman since June 1963 when he filled an unexpired term. Ray recently ran for reelection for a three-year term but as of this writing I can't report on the result. Ray is head of the Health Claim Department at State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America in Worcester. I'd love to hear from you Ray. Did you win?

When I think about winners I think about Ed Stone, another Bay Stater, and horse trainer extraordinary. Ed writes to me as follows. "Thought you and the class would be interested in the following clipping that appeared in a recent issue of 'The Thoroughbred Record'— a well-known trade magazine.

"It seems to me that Les Davis is entitled to a rousing Wah Hoo Wah for his being elected Chairman of the Board of the La Mesa Race Track (New Mexico).

"It is comforting to me to know of one race track in the country where I could be sure of stalls although I hope to continue to race primarily in New England." Les is also president of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association. I tell you, fellas, we've got '41s in important spots in every business, industry or profession from coast to coast. At the last meeting of the Class Executive

Committee held in New York on February 25, Dan Provost reported that he saw JohnWhite at a Christmas party and that John is still the best piano player around. Dan is Director of Public Relations of Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. and is doing a lot of good work for our class in connection with the 25-year-gift program. He says that John is a "must" for the Colossal 25th Reunion so start making plans, Johnny.

Felix Lilienthal missed the meeting because he was in Jamaica (BWI not LI). Stacy Hill was busy working on a merger between his firm, Glore Forgan & Co., and William R. Staats, Inc. of Los Angeles. Stace was setting up an Investment Advisory Service on the West Coast.

There was a time when a man's sales ter- ritory could be checked out quickly on a road map, but from the sound of JohnBowe's new responsibilities, as a sales engineer for The Lummus Company of New York, John's going to need a globe. He's in charge of construction sales in the Western Hemisphere! Lummus is an international design, engineering, and construction firm Prior to joining Lummus, John was manag- ing director for two years of St. Ann's Co., Ltd., for whom he directed the acquisition and development of properties in Jamaica, BWI. For five years before that he was President of the John D. Bowe Construction Co.

Between now and next month I'm off on another airplane ride around the world covering Europe, Middle East, India and the Far East. So as of this moment I can't say whether the May notes will come from those faraway places or off the typewriter of a guest columnist. Perhaps I'll find some classmates on the way and report on their doings.

TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO THIS MONTH. ... Jake Gidney offered a reward for the return of his lost black wallet containing his driver's license! ... Phi Delt's bridge team starring Reg Nelson, LarryDwyer and John Griffeth won the college championship. ... Jack Delander and JackBates were the mainstays of the Dartmouth crew.
