Our repeated plea for news has yielded a few responses, and we hope that the morsel we're able to serve at this sitting will encourage more of you to sound off from wherever you are, about whatever you're doing. Paul Guibord, we learn through his wife, "is in the Navy and finds his work most interesting. He is situated on some island in the South Pacific." Although there are no other Dartmouth men with him there, he did run into Fighter Squadron Leader MarioGuerrieri and Jack Smith at Pearl Harbor several months ago. Paul also saw Dick Hefier, officer on a carrier, several months ago in the South Pacific.
Dan Schwartz wrote a while back from Ft. Meade, Md., where he was awaiting shipment —and action—as an infantry machine gunner. Wrote Dan, "Have seen both Joe Millimet and Budd Schulberg in the past month. Joe and I spent a couple of days while I was in Florida. He was stationed in St. Augustine as an instructor (Lt., jg) in a Coast Guard anti-submarine school, but was shipping out about the same time as I. He has a swell baby girl Budd I saw on my way through Washington. He is in the OSS film outfit (ensign), and expects to be overseas in about a month. I also met his lovely new wife."
Pete Fitzherbert can always be depended on to pass along news. His recent letter reports that he has heard from Mike Boyd, "who is now stationed at Fort Warren in Cheyennehe's conducting some kind of an accelerated course in some gun or other and has given up hope of ever getting overseas. He's been in over three years now, and his travels by camps and forts reads like this: Devins, Andrews, Revere, Davis, Pearl Harbor, Hahn, Eustis, Davis, Edwards, Bliss, Carson and Warren—and I may have left out a couple. KarlWolff is in St. Petersburg with the Merchant Marine. He's apparently at a cadet school training to be an officer on small freighters. As for me (it's Pete still speaking)—well, I've been 1-A since last September. I've taken my physical, and the most they could find wrong with me was three missing teeth—and still I don't go. I don't know whether to buy new clothes or not. I'd like to move, but don't dare to, for the uncertainty. So I'm retaining my status quo—same job, same home, wife, youngster."
Ross Woodbridge is in Australia serving as a Red Cross assistant field director. Until his overseas assignment, he was with the Red Cross at Westover Field, Mass. Prior to this work, Ross was publicity director and announcer for radio station WHEC, Rochester, N. Y.
Chuck Richards has been discharged from the Army because of a recurrence of malaria which got him down originally while he was stationed in Panama. According to the BobPrentices, through whom this news reached us, Chuck is finding civilian clothes and ways a bit strange after khaki, GI, etc.
Sgt. Jack Sullivan, working just a room away from yours truly, is one of the veterans of Army News Service. He's a key member of the ANS shortwave news desk. Also down the hall, awaiting overseas shipment, is Cpl.George Cole, assigned to the Education & Research branch of the Morale Services Division, ASF. He's looking forward to his overseas job which will be an on-the-spot study of what makes GI Joe tick—and a score of censored at ceteras.
Ensign Jocko Morrison ran into tough luck by breaking his elbow shortly after reporting for training at Ft. Schuyler. The delay was compensated for by the happy fact that he was hospitalized quite near his home, and so was to get frequent glimpses of his wife and son. Before long, he expects to report back to Schuyler—and try again.
