The death of Henry W. Thurston on September 19 removed one of Dartmouth's distinguished alumni and one of the most loyal members of our class. Unfortunately no member of the class was able to attend his funeral, but flowers were sent in the name of the class. His career as an educator, social worker and author is briefly outlined in the obituary section of this number, but to us he was just "Henri," a genial and steadfast personal friend, who, even when health was failing and personal obligations were pressing, carried on most efficiently the work of class secretary because of his great interest in us all.

"Biff" and Mrs. Kelly spent the summer as usual at Caspian Lake, Greensboro, Vt. Toward the end of the season they discovered that the Mrs. Hale, from Shanghai, China, who with her two children had rented one of their cottages, was the wife of Arthur Hale's oldest son, William. The whole family had been interned during the war, but were repatriated towards its close, on the Gripsholm, after a voyage of 72 days. In November 1945, several months after J. Day, Bill returned to resume his work for Starr, Park and Freeman in the banking and insurance business, this time in Hong Kong. Mrs. Hale remains in Scarsdale, N. Y., and has placed their three children in schools and college.

Arthur's second son, Fred, is still employed by the Government on income tax work, and lives with his wife and three children in San Jose, Calif. Edward, the third son, enlisted in the Navy for the last war, but died suddenly while in boot training. Olive, the only daughter, is an assistant librarian in the Buffalo Public Library.

Newton and his wife were obliged to reorganize their summer plans because of some physical set backs after our Reunion at Hanover in June. They have decided not to spend the winter in Florida, but are now settled in a pleasant apartment at 151 Maple St., Springfield, Mass., for the winter, we hope with health fully restored. Under the totalitarian form of government now prevailing in our class, Billie has ordained that Biff shall be class secretary for the present. His winter address is 2650 2d Ave. North, St. Petersburg, Florida.

Secretary and Treasurer, 2650 2nd Ave., N., St. Petersburg 6, Fla.
