THE ST. LOUIS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION met at the Missouri Athletic Club on Feb. 5, for its annual dinner meeting. This year we enjoyed having Hanover Holiday in St. Louis. The speakers representing the College were Dr. Wing-tsit Chan, Prof, of Chinese Culture, and the director of Hanover Holiday, Prof. Herbert W. Hill, the eminent historian, politician, and raconteur. Dr. Chan ran into transportation difficulties, had to leave his late train at Buffalo and flew in a blinding snowstorm to reach St. Louis just barely in time to speak. Those of us who heard his thoughtful and stimulating discussion of "China's Choice" are grateful for the rigorous effort that Dr. Chan made to get here. Prof. Hill had possibly an even more rigorous 24 hours, as it was spent largely in the company of local alumni headed by our president, Howie Mullin '27. Informal gatherings were held on the night of Feb. 4, at the home of Bill Rench '34 and at noon, Feb. 5, at the Noonday Club (where else?). There is general agreement among the local alumni that the extension of Hanover Holiday to alumni clubs is a huge success.
In the department of loose ends, after diligent research the names of the Advisory Council or Elder Statesmen have been discovered. In addition to Leigh Turner '04, and ex-officio Boyd Rogers '35, previously mentioned, they are Tom Curtis '32, Pete Grace '33, Bill Rench '34, Frank Cornwall '35, and Buster May '36. When this arithmetical progression lines up in one room, we have great expectations of some logical conclusion. Their meetings will be reported in detail in this column, using largely hearsay evidence, as is our custom.
