It will be June when you read these notes and, because they will be the last until fall, have a happy summer and in your travels try to schedule Newport, Vt., as a port of call.
At this moment, it seems strange to talk of summer, for except for patches of clear water near the shore, ice still covers our lake and from many wood lots still rises smoke from our sugar houses.
Do let's write each other during the summer months, for these are eventful days and by fall you will want them reviewed in these news columns.
My better half is in Holland visiting Drew and Evelyn and their three daughters. Drew is Deputy Commander of a NATO fighter base near Amsterdam. I'm in sole command of a tree nursery, now in its 25th year.
Ralph Jenkins was the first to respond to our offer to replace any lost Golden Year book and already our custodian PennAborn has sent one to him. Ralph wrote from Zion National Park in Utah with news that both he and Rachel are well. His son Donald, a professor of Engineering at Lafayette College, attended the recent international conference of engineers in Paris.
It is good to hear from Win Loveland who answered our special request for news of any on sick call. Shortly after our last Reunion, Win experienced a digestive disorder that has made him now an ambulatory patient at a rest home at 333 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston, zip 02115. He is able "to take walks or rides, and to receive callers. He sends his own good wishes to any who, like him, may be on sick list, with a "Hail" to all fellow Hers.
As this is written, it is not certain who of our class officers will have attended the May 5, 6 Weekend meeting in Hanover, but you will not lack for coverage of its events in this issue.
