Thirty-Nine was well represented at the annual Dartmouth Club of New York gathering in the spacious ballroom of the Hotel Commodore, even though we didn't rate any prizes for attendance. On hand were Bill Cunningham (the genial banker), Larry (Dilkes) Vulte,Junie Merriam, Hugh McLaren, Bill Carter,Bill Tucker, Walt Magee, Tom Brooks, DocJessup, Dick Ruebling, and yours truly. Big Lar' Vulte talks of the possibility of moving his base for flying operations with PanAm, down Brazil way, but there is nothing definite yet. We were glad to finally catch up with Magee, and to learn that he is back in his old stamping grounds at Bamberger's department store, Newark, N. J. Walt passed on the intelligence that Bill McCarthy has gone into the "bigtime" with a brand new promotion that takes him from Bamberger's to Macy's, N.Y.C.
HERE & THERE: A few weeks ago, while riding into N.Y.C. with Rod Albright we carefully noted down all the essentials of our conversation, which any good class secretary would naturally do. And then we lost our notes!! Fortunately we retained some of the salient facts, so we can report that (1) Rod is a recent father (a) he has left Pictorial Films and now is one of three partners in a commercial and Industrial Film outfit (3) he is on his way to Honolulu to do a film for a large airline (4) he was sporting a very dapper-looking mustache, grown with the help of the Florida sun. Rod also passed on the dope that Jay Diffenbaugh and his Dad have sold their furniture business in Monmouth, III., to preside over an orange grove in Upland, Calif Being somewhat at sea concerning the pending Republican convention, we sauntered downtown to the Young Republican Club of Greenwich to hear a forum on the three or four leading republican candidates for the Presidency. We were surprised and delighted to find Dave Smith presiding at the forum as the president of the Club. Dave turned in a very -commendable job as mediator, after having opened proceedings with a nicely-worded introduction to the evening's proceedings.
