A poop sheet from the front office warns us that space is at a premium this month, because it's the Fund issue, and that the Class Notes Editor will be unusually ruthless in cutting the fluff we secretaries are prone to use to pad our notes with. Enjoying as we do more than a casual acquaintance with this lady—we celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve—we know her to be a woman who means what she says and who, furthermore, knowing our foibles, will hardly be disposed to spare our fluff. Looks like the MAG has us over a barrel, so you will get it straight this month.

Most of the news we are going to give you, however, is a kind of news that doesn't make the headlines, hardly ever makes its way into print in fact, but which deserves a good deal more attention than it gets. That is news of those members of the Class who, in one capacity or another, are working in the interests of the College. We have made a check in the past few days and frankly we are impressed, and we think you will be, at the variety and extent of participation by members of the Class in activities of vital importance to Dartmouth.

We will pass over the organization of the Class itself, its officers, executive committee, reunion committees, etc., as important as that is. We can come back to that, perhaps, in some later issue, but the spotlight this month turns to highly important working groups and individuals directly engaged in College work.

First, the Alumni Fund. As you all know, Sam Black and his gallant crew have done and continue to do a tremendous amount of work in helping to keep the College on an even keel financially. One has to be a part of the Fund organization to realize fully what this job takes in time, thought, and energy. This past year this work brought in contributions from 382 men for a total of $6228.72. You ought to know the men who did this. In addition to Class Agent Sam Black, who organized and sparked the drive with characteristic vigor and efficiency, the following pitched in as Assistant Class Agents: DarBates, Bill Bates, Wes Beattie, Joe Celano,Art Connelly, Don D'Arcy (whom, by the way, you may now call "Major, by virtue of his appointment to the staff of New Hampshire's new Governor, Sherman Adams '20). the late Red Ellis, Wood Foster (just admitted to partnership in the Saint Paul law firm of Oppenheimer, Hodgson, Brown. Baer ami Wolff) Dick Jackson, Mel Katz, Henry King,Arch Lade, Bill Lang, Bob Niebling, HenryPierpont, Jud Pierson, Bill Quinn, LarryReeves, John Rockwell, Bob Veres, and PageWorthington.

Another key group of workers are tackling the tough job of helping the Admissions Off.ce to screen applicants. Unfortunately it proved impossible to learn the names of all the members of the Class serving on these committees, but you can get some idea of how extensne this work is from the following list of members of the class who are serving as Chairmen of Alumni Interviewing Committees. Multiply by four or five and you will get some idea of the number at work. Here they are: JusStanley, Alumni Councillor for the entire region of Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, Bill Bates, Willard Doyle, Bob Doscher, A.Gemberling, Whit Kimball, Francis Lathrop,John Marden, Bob Thornton, Harry Osborne,Ed Foley, Myron Ball, James Noonan, BillLang, Bill Brown, Wood Foster, and BobTurner.

Another vital aspect of alumni work is that of alumni associations and clubs. Before we give you what appears to us to be quite an impressive roster of officers, may we remind you of Jus Stanley's work as representative of District III on the Alumni Council. We have six associations and club presidents, by our count. They are Bob Critchell, president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Chicago; Harry Osborne, president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern New Jersey; Ernest B. Turner, president of the Dartmouth Club of Rochester, N. Y.; LeeEckels, president of the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania; Bob Thornton, president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of North Texas; and Bill King, president of the Dartmouth Club of Virginia. We have at least two Club secretaries, Jim McFarland, secretary of the Rocky Mountain Dartmouth Alumni Association, and Larry Reeves, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C.

These lists may well be incomplete. Our apologies for any omissions or errors, which however we hope you will give us the scoop on if you spot them. There are of course many others serving in other important ways, and those who have put their shoulders to the wheel in the past, all of which gives a clue to the answer to the questions so often raised by non-Dartmouth people "Why is your Alumni Fund so much more successful than others?" "Why is it that you seem to find it so much easier to carry through projects that have us stumped?" The answer is clear. It is to be found in the readiness of the alumnus to join with his classsmates in well organized activities in behalf of the College.

These notes have already run over, so we will hoard our small store of other news for the next issue. Adios.
