Over eighty alumni and guests were on hand at the Robert Clay Hotel in Miami, February 19, to honor Prof. Herb Hill. This was an outdoor party from start to finish. The balmy mid-winter breezes, the moonkissed waters of Biscayne Bay, and a brilliant, star-studded, tropical sky served as the backdrop as we reminisced about the Hanover plain and paid homage to Dartmouth. When Bud Hoban '12 and Lew Erckert '24 led the crowd in "Glory to Dartmouth" and "Eleazar Wheelock" the echoes really rang out for Dartmouth lustily in this city which has never known the touch or feel of snow or ice.
Flanking Bob Pierce '25 at the speakers' table were Mrs. William P. Earl, whose late husband was in the class of '90, and ClarkTobin '10, football great of another era. Other Ivy college clubs were represented by McGlinn of Yale, Williams of Harvard, and McKee of Penn. High schools in and around Miami had their principal or dean present to learn something about our college to carry back to their students who are showing increasing interest in preparing for Dartmouth. Jack Harding, athletic director of the University of Miami, was on hand to satisfy himself that he need have no regrets if some of the promising athletes of these parts slip through his fingers and land in Hanover. All of these guests fell under the spell of Herb Hill's moving and flavorful talk about Dartmouth, and left the gathering with a vivid picture of the college, and the spirit which makes it what it is.
Bill Danforth '41, here from California on business, was netted by our advance publicity, and showed up to give us a lively account of this year's Winter Carnival which he had taken in before coming to Miami.
George Loehr '20, a vice president of our club, announced that his home town of Fort Lauderdale will be the scene of our spring meeting. This is scheduled for April 30 at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
