The necessity for leadership in the midst of today's urgent problems was emphasized by President Dickey, our honored guest on Friday evening, April 22, at our annual dinner meeting in the Harrisburger Hotel.
Dr. Dickey declared our physical powers have far surpassed our moral and political powers in today's world, and added, "For the first time in our industrial civilization, men probably hold within their hands power to make mistakes which are irretrievable and complete."
He pointed out that the time factor is the key to our present dilemma; that given time we will be able to work out the moral and political controls to encompass the physical powers we now have at our command. The working out of these controls among the American people, he said, will require leadership such as only liberal arts colleges can produce.
