Homecoming weekend provided the perfect setting for another JackStebe special. With wife Nancy and son Chris providing the leg work, Jack managed to pull off what most would agree was our best mini-reunion ever. Following a good showing in the torchlight parade, Paul Doscher graciously hosted a large contingent of'66s at his home in Norwich. Despite some intellectual jousting (Robin Carpenter and Stebe vs. DaveJohnston et al re: merits of funding a Tucker Foundation retreat program), the night's more serious efforts were devoted to Doscher's keg and spacious home a.k.a. "Meadowview."

Dean Spatz, accompanied by Carol and son Mark, who is attending the University of Rhode Island, added some welcome comments as midwest representative to our class executive committee. Cost containing is critical whether assessing a need for 40,000 square feet of additional space for Osmonics, Inc., or the cost of our 25th Reunion yearbook. Word from Allan Anderson was that our brethren in the class of 1964 underbudgeted their yearbook by a figure well into five figures.

Following a joint reception with '67 and '68 —made memorable for me by Dr. PeterTuxen's discourse on colon-rectal surgical techniques, which I respectfully deferred to my Gile Hall comrade, Rich Kaiser, and sandwiched in between the football and soccer teams' heartbreakers—over 50 classmates, wives, dates, sons, and daughters gathered for our annual dinner. With representation from as far away as Denver (Gary Bryson, Robo Cleary) and San Francisco (Anderson), class president SteveLanfer hosted a superb evening, highlighted by the report of our class research project. Jeff Finley '90 entertained and informed with slides and commentary on the sociological phenomenon of the "Deadheads, " the devoted followers of the Grateful Dead. Fielding questions from ex-lawyer Tom Lips and ex-physicist Peter Orba-

nowski, Finley dispelled many rumors (the Deadheads are not a cult, they do not do hard drugs, they do not enjoy special privilege with the band). Like any good researcher, he also left many questions unanswered, but in general left us just as curious about the group's real motivation and message for (about) our society.

Also in attendance for the weekend were classmates Bud Heerde, Halsey Bullen,Rick MacMillan, Ken Reiber, Brad Laycock, Erv Burkholder, Mike Clapp, BobNash, Frank Blod, Rich Daly, and several others to whom I apologize, but from whom I would welcome a note and an opportunity for acclaim next time.
