A brief notice of the death of Jerome Macdonald was published in the Memorial Section of the November MAGAZINE. That notice told very little of Jerry's interests other than his job with the State. Jerry was born in Boston and graduated from the Boston Latin School. At Dartmouth, you will recall, he was a varsity left guard and a shot putter. He was also a charter member of his fraternity. After graduation, he became a Certified Public Ac- countant. Associated with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 32 years, he was a supervising assistant director of the Department of Corporations and Taxation at the time of his death. There were three children—Jerome Jr., Thomas and William. All three were graduates of Holy Cross College and two of them took law degrees at Boston University. All saw extensive duty as naval officers during World War 11. His family was Jerry's primary interest. He was also prominent in civic affairs in Quincy and a charter member of several yacht clubs, civic groups and church societies in his community. Well-known in Boston and Marblehead yachting circles, he served as judge in principal regattas for many years and he was keenly interested in developing junior yachting activities in the Massachusetts Bay area. Jerry had shown signs of failing health for about a year. Last January his condition began to be serious, but he improved sufficiently to attend and enjoy the annual alumni dinner of the Boston Alumni Association last winter. It was his last gathering with his classmates and fellow-alumni. He continued to value his Dartmouth association very highly. Jerry will be remembered as a friendly soul and a devoted alumnus.
