DARTMOUTH MEN Luncheon Every Wednesday Noon
William Penn Hotel Grill Pittsburgh, Pa.
Even though the football team has not been doing too well this season, three Western Pennsylvania alumni obtained a private railroad car from Herb Harwood's '26 organization, Pittsburgh land Lake Erie Railroad, and went to the Dartmouth-Lehigh football game the hard way. Mr. and Mrs. Nat Parker '26, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Harwood '26, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Chinlund '29 with several other couples from Lehigh and Cornell had a wonderful time playing bridge and drinking refreshments from Thursday morning until Saturday noon. As the private car squirmed its way through New York State, Massachusetts, Connecticut Valley to the far reaches of White River Junction, their only comment was, ' We were in time for the game." Then, after all this trouble, Dartmouth lost.
Dartmouth Night in Pittsburgh was celebrated by having a cocktail party and dinner at the University Club which was attended by several Dartmouth alumni and their wives. Those in attendance were: Ed Byrkit '47 and wife, Jim Olson '43 and wife, Fred Garfield '46 and wife, Shep Patterson '24 and wife, John Bird '44 and wife, Sam Ewart 'l9 and wife, Mac Corner '44 and wife, Carl Tourtellot 45 and fiancee, Marty Baruth '45 and date, Ben Wiley '23, George Stewart '45, Otis Hovey 15* and Bus Benner '44.
This was the first Dartmouth Night celebration that wives and girl friends were invited to attend and everyone, especially the women, thought it was a grand idea. After dinner Sam Ewart 'l9 led everyone through the well-known Dartmouth songs which was concluded by singing Men of Dartmouth. It was indeed a very fine evening.
There are still about fifteen to twenty Dartmouth alumni attending the weekly luncheons at the William Penn Hotel. It has been proposed by several of the alumni that we find another place to bold our weekly meetings. Therefore, on or about the first of the year the luncheon meetings will be held at Danny Veiga's Restaurant, 516 Grant St.
On December 28 there is expected to be a party for all Western Pennsylvania alumni and students home for the Christmas Holidays. Notices should be sent out by the time this publication is issued. If you do not receive a notice, please contact M. D. Corner.
