Tim Lyman says he has retired from the active practice of medicine and is taking it easy. He sees no chance of making the 50th. He had the pleasure of a visit from John McElroy. Perhaps seeing an old classmate may put the urge into Tim. We hope so.
Follett is now at Chester, Calif. With RayBrown at Chester, Vt„ we hope their addresses don't get mixed up.
We are in receipt of a memorial to BobDavis from Mrs. Davis. It included a very good picture of Bob and two poems; one (which follows) was written by Bob on the death of his father, Dart. '74.
He sleeps upon the shoulder of a quiet hill Above the green expanse of valley east and west.
Outspread beneath his bed the brooks and pastures lie, The homestead and the shaded ways His boyhood knew, and his maturity best loved.
To cover him the snow and flowers alternate, The clean winds from the pines encompass him, The granites of the mountain under-arch his frame.
Fit spot is this, and comrades proper to the man.
He loved the central haunts of men Yet closer loved the unfrequented hills.
To him the silences delivered their longhoarded message.
He knew his Master and his knowledge shared with men, He lived upon the highlands which few reach, and few communicate.
His voice recalled the long-lost better self, He drew God near to mankind, made goodness gay.
As blossoms spring upon the mould, life's commonness Gleamed into poetry when he smiled. So do we leave him, in tears but exultant.
Years could not add to him. Death cannomar him. Love shall not leave him. This is earth's conquest.
