The Long Island Association kicked ofl for the fall season with a very successful dinner and reception for members of the incoming freshman class at the Hempstead Country Club on September 12. Twenty-three members of the Class of 1955 turned out for the occasion and brought their fathers along. Members of the Long Island Association swelled the attendance to more than 100. EddieChamberlain '36 came all the way from Hanover to give an inspiring talk on the opportunities which await the incoming freshmen.
The meeting also served as an occasion for installing the newly elected officers for the coming year. Jack Coulson '39 headed the slate as president. Judge Henry Collins '18 put aside his judicial robes and journeyed in from Seaford to administer the oath of office to the incoming officers.
"Jigger" Pender '97 swapped a few yarns about Dartmouth at the turn of the last century, and then as elder statesman o£ our group proceeded to bestow the "Tomahawk Award" upon Walter S. Rushmore '32, retiring president, in recognition of his outstanding achievement in guiding the Club through a very successful year.
Our next big event is scheduled to be the celebration of Dartmouth Night on October 19 at Felice's Restaurant in Westbury, Long Island. The Glee Club will visit our territory between March 29 and April 6, at which time a concert will be held in Great Neck. Specific details will be forthcoming at a later date.
