The Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern New Jersey ended its 1950-51 season with a very successful family picnic at Bill Blanchard's country home. A particularly large group of children attended the affair this year, swelling the attendance of Dartmouth men and their families to over 90 people. Games, hamburgers, beer, and coke were enjoyed by all. We were especially happy to have present Kent Knowlton '94, and his family. Kent represents the earliest class o£ our active members and we appreciate his loyalty to Dartmouth and to our alumni organization.

Our enrollment program is well under way. Our aim is to reduce attrition of accepted candidates for Dartmouth in this area. Through publicity of Dartmouth in secondary schools, the reception for accepted freshmen and their parents, and the promotion of good public relations for the College in New Jersey, we are taking steps to achieve this goal. After the pleasing results of our reception last May for accepted freshmen of the Class of 1955 and their parents we all agree that this affair should be an annual event. We found that the mothers, fathers, and sons all thought that the reception was an excellent idea, and as it was our first major effort in this program we were very pleased with such a favorable response.

In order to carry out what we feel is a positive program for the benefit of the College we: are starting our current season with an effort, to increase our active membership. Letters, explaining our purpose and program are being sent to local alumni in an attempt to acquaint more Dartmouth men in our area with our association.

Bill Hoffmann is planning a class organization with the purpose of selecting class representatives who will try to encourage alumni of their various classes to attend our affairs and support our organization. We feel that many local alumni would like to attend our meetings but are hesitant because they feel that they may not know any of those present. Through Bill's program we hope that Dartmouth men can be certain that they will see members of their class whom they know.

With a larger group of interested alumni we feel that we can accomplish a great deal more in our efforts to get the best young men in our area to attend Dartmouth College.
