DARTMOUTH MEN
Luncheon Every Wednesday Noon Danny's Restaurant 516 Grant St. Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania held its annual picnic on July 11 at Shadyside Academy, with over 100 alumni, students, and friends in attendance. A softball game between the bachelors and the old married men proved that marriage did not improve the playing of the Dartmouth alumni. The bachelors, captained by Bill Eaton '17 and with the stalwart pitching of Nat ParkerJr. '58 by the fifth inning had worn MacCorner '44, pitcher for the married men, down to the point where everyone was getting a hit. Sam and Ann Coombs, co-chairmen of the picnic, rang the dinner bell to which everyone hurried to devour the hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and barrels of beer.
After the picnic dinner the nominating committee headed by Bill Eaton '17 announced the candidates for next year's office and after a unanimous vote the following officers were elected for the 1952-53 year: Stewart H. Steffey '41, president; Morton Burden Jr. '32, vice-president; M. D. Corner '44, vice-president; J. F. Ingram '29, vice-president; F. M. Garfield '46, treasurer; Carll K. Tracy '49, secretary; Rev. E. G. Bennett '45, chaplain.
During the past month the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania lost three of its most active Dartmouth couples. Carl Tourtellot '45 is going back to school and will attend the Harvard Graduate School of Business this fall. Bob Douglas '48 has been transferred to Philadelphia by the Gulf Oil Corporation. For a real Dartmouth send-off a few of us gave them a party at the James Olson's big, new, old house in Ben Avon Heights. After a picnic dinner Jim and Barbara Olson opened up their 30' x 15' living room to dancing. BobPease '45 is leaving to become an instructor at Rutgers University and further his work toward a Ph.D. in marketing.
Dartmouth Night, October 17, will be celebrated by the Dartmouth Club of Western Pennsylvania at the University Club by a cocktail party, dinner, and movies of last year's Dartmouth football games. Co-chairmen of this event will be Sam Coombs '44, Bud Devlin '38, and Jim Mulvihill '50.
