Since this is being submitted for publication before the results of the elections are fully known, it is impossible to recount in detail such political triumphs as the class may have achieved on the coat-tails of the national race. It would, therefore, be of great interest to the secretary as well as to the class-at-large to have any political news from classmates as may be available.
In the Granite State, for example, it is the undersigned's sincere conviction that one Charles Tesreau was elected County Solicitor, since he ran on the Republican side of the ballot, and that usually means election; confirmation of this fact is urgently needed for the files. Since Bob Jones ran on both tickets in the same election for a county office, the exact title of which escapes me at the moment, it is also probable that he continues in the public service.
Seriously, any classmates who won elections should let the secretary know.
Lt. Lee McNamara, commanding officer of Organized Surface Division 1-33, Naval Reserve, U. S. Naval Reserve Training Center in Manchester, has announced the promotion of Lt. John R. McLane Jr. to Lieutenant Commander.
By dint of much snide innuendo and other devious means, the facts in l'Affaire Marshall at last come to light. Dan is now with the Southern Steel Co. in San Antonio, Tex. and was married on June 30 to Miss Ruby Kelso of San Antonio. Dan now has an 11-year-old daughter and a boy 6.
The main line of business of friend Marshall's concern is the manufacture of jails, cells, etc. Business, according to recent accounts from Illinois and other areas, is picking up along the replacement line at least.
Bob (Blink) Carroll is now stationed on U.S.S. Gudgeon (SS 567), at the Naval Shipyard, in Portsmouth, N. H. He maintains his legal residence, however, as of old, in Jamaica Plain, Mass. Bob Frese is in the sales promotion department of Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick, N. J., and lives in Metuchen. Since I plan to attend the 1938 parley this month in New York, I shall expect to be able to report on Bob's arch rival concern, Bauer and Black, after a conference of the usual type with Ben Lane, if he's there.
Dr. Johnny Harmon is with the Air Force and is stationed in Wichita Falls, Tex. FreddyHollingworth, long a mystery man to this coirespondent, is production control manager of the Illinois Watch Case Co. in Elgin, Ill., not far, perhaps from the Mercer estate and the redoubtable Colonel McCormick.
Art King is an engineer with Fellows Gear Shaper Co. of Springfield, Vt. Charley Mann is a plant manager (of what, I don't know) and lives in Topsfield, Mass.
Fud Mather is still with the telephone company, with which he has been associated, with the usual interruption, since graduation and is now a district superintendent working out of Cambridge, Mass.
John Mayer is with Rich Plan Corporation of San Rafael, Calif., and lives in Kentfield; sounds like a good business, but the title leaves me in some doubt as to the exact nature of the wealth to be amassed.
Frank Newman is teaching law at the University of California at Berkeley and is enjoying the salubrity of that clime, including the fogs and Governor Warren. As Chief Social Worker of the V. A. Regional Office in Nashville, Tenn., Mike Sullivan represents the class in that border area.
A prominent resident of Grosse Pointe, Mich., is Ed Thomas, who is district manager for the Garlock Packing Co. out of Detroit. Bud Walls is still with Connecticut Mutual as Assistant, Superintendent of Agencies and lives in Hartford, Conn.
Francis Worcester Jr. is a salesman for the Northwest Paper Co., in St. Louis, Mo. FredAltemus is also a salesman, he, however, for Alloy Stainless Products of Totowa, N. J.; perhaps he could impart the necessary decorative value to friend Marshall's de luxe model jails. Chuck Bullock, long time no see, is a Food Broker in Oklahoma City valuable person to know these days if you happen to reside anywhere in that Aberdeen Angus area where bulls go for a higher price than one can imagine.
Bob Coffin is a Ph.D. candidate at Cornell in the Rural Education Department and is also a graduate assistant in the Department of Extension Teaching and Information far above the waters of the mythical lake of the same name.
Sid Francis, with whom I had some abortive correspondence last spring relative to locating some place to stay for a week last summer, is still in the insurance business in New Bedford. Bill McNeil is Sales Manager for B-D & Co. of Rutherford, N. J., but still calls Needham, Mass., otherwise noted for being the permanent abode of F. Webster Brett, his home.
Having had such great success in eliciting information from Marshall by means of McCarthy-like (Joe, that is) methods, I am searching the files for other fruitful sources. If you have something on your conscience that you would rather not have appear here in garbled form, you had better send the correct information in. Appointments will be made this June in Hanover for protest meetings or private settlements of such matters, but there's still a good many months to go before you can get satisfaction, and even then, I might be able to get sent to Europe or somewhere. Leave this be a warning to all.
