On the evening of January 18, the Big Green spouses took over and the mixed party at Prexy Jack '43 Holliday's was such a success that the days of the stag could be numbered. It was a B.Y.0.L. deal with a buffet dinner that made its appearance about 9 P.M. Following football movies of the Dartmouth- Princeton "dream game"—including a rather confused and boozed commentary by WaltKuhn '41 (who supposedly attended the affair) Cameraman Holliday showed and narrated the flicks of his recent African safari.
Among our 40 guests were John Fenno '48, former business manager of the ALUMNI MAG and now with the Indiana Mushroom Co. at Terre Haute; Jim McLaughlin '48 (and wife Jean), also in Terre Haute with Root's Department Store; Ross (Cocktails) Borneman '38 and Barb, wheeling in from Elkhart; and Gus Zitrides '39, who has forsaken the football coaching profession for a personnel procurement job with the government (Gus was silent when asked if that meant he was recruiting votes for Harry). Two other travelers came through "The Village" recently, but just missed the party. Wild Dan Marshall '38, out of Dallas, Texas, was on an eastern junket; and John Ashby '46 was in for a weekend of rest. Ash is returning to Indianapolis in March, after playing professor to a bunch of Waves for 16 months at Great Lakes, and will be associated with P. R. Mallory Co. in sales.
Others attending the Ball & Chain gathering were Mesdames and Messrs. John Mann '94; Walter Kelley '97; Reuben Winchester '23; Bud Buell '23; Hi McKee '27; Blaine Miller '31; Hank Peirce '34; Garven Dalglish '30; John Clarke '31; Lew Williams '38; Jack Davis '36; Ed Eaton '37; Bill McMurtrie '38; Vaughn Johannessen Jr. '50; and solo artists Lou Highmark '39 and Ann (Tex) Mahoney '40 (subbing for hubby); and Tom Moore '42.
Bill McMurtrie '38, who left the room once for only three minutes, was "elected" president for the coming year, and Greek Mahoney '40, unable to attend because of "illness," was wired in as the new secretary.
All Indiana alums please note: George Colton '35 will be our welcome guest speaker from the College on Thursday evening, April 3, 6:30 P.M., at the University Club, 970 N. Delaware, Indianapolis. So mark the date on your calendar now and plan to attend. More details later from the official scribbler.
Secretary, 1123 Ivy Lane, Indianapolis 20, Ind.
