Despite a second successive year of very bad weather, your Association's annual dinner held March 12 at the gorgeous Capitol Room of The Golden Rule in St. Paul was a great success. Phil Troy's gang set before us a magnificent steak, dinner in delightful surroundings. Tuss McLaughry entertained us and reported, among other matters, that the decision to abandon spring football practice aniong the Ivy League was made by the college presidents—and not by the coaches.
Tuss did a great job to help your Association cement friendly relations with many of the secondary schools in the Twin Cities area, and he gave an excellent short talk to many groups of fine boys who are thinking of the College. Stu MacPhail, Steve Osbom and BobKrieger all did yeoman service in the cause and your scribe understands that BobbChaney managed to get Tuss on two TV programs during his short stay in the Twin Cities.
Stu MacPhail deserves a world of credit for the fine work he has been doing as enrollment committee chairman. John Kelley, who is also doing a grand job, reports that his interviewing committee has had more outstanding boys this year than at any time in recent years. HalWonson, Clark MacGregor and others have given a lot of time to these matters.
Bob Krieger, your newly elected president, never was one to be bashful. He has already sent out a postcard asking for trouble—in the form of suggestions to liven up the Association or to cut it down to fewer big functions each year. If you haven't misplaced those cards, mark down your preferences and give Bob something to tabulate so he can spend these hoped-for spring afternoons collecting results instead of tramping the links.
