To bring you up to date on Northwest alumni club activities it is necessary to go way back to last summer. The annual stag picnic was held at Henry Thrall's farm on Thursday, June 25. Tom Warner, Dave Warner, BobKrieger, John McClintock and Art Ostrander handled the arrangements. Hamm and Gluek Brewing Companies supplied the refreshments, and everybody had a good time as they always do at this event. Guests for the occasion were the new class of freshmen and their dads.
The freshmen send-off luncheon took place Wednesday, September 9, at the Nankin Cafe. Approximately fifty alumni and freshmen attended. Don Barr '18, who until recently was Assistant Treasurer of the College and is now associated with Investor's Syndicate, was the main speaker. Donald Bush '5 was chairman of the event.
On Sunday, September 13, the annual coed picnic was held at George Hoke's place on Gleason Lake. Whit and Marty Miller handled the arrangements, and, though the weather forced us inside, George's amusement room proved adequate and the event was a success.
Gluek's Brewery taproom was the scene of the annual Dartmouth Night which took place on October 20. This event is always a success. Don Norton prepared an excellent dutch luncheon and beverages were through the courtesy of Gluek Brewery. On Thursday, November 19, the executive committee met at the home of Stuart MacPhail, president. At this writing, your committee hopes that Assistant Dean Arthur Kiendl, in Minneapolis attending a Student Counseling Conference, will attend to speak informally.
The annual Christmas smoker has been scheduled for Saturday, December 26, at 12:00 noon at the Interlachen Country Club. Details later.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 29 and 30, the Dartmouth hockey team will compete against the University of Minnesota at William's Arena; special events are being planned for this occasion.
On January 28 President Dickey will be in Minneapolis for the annual meeting more about this outstanding event later.
Clarke Bassett, formerly of Fargo, has joined the First National Bank of Minneapolis as a "V.P." Bob Krieger and many others are working hard on the enrollment committee to line up good boys for the Class of '57. (Athletic ability is definitely an asset.) JohnFaegre, our new Alumni Council member, is working closely with Bob and has lined up many alumni throughout our area to help.
