As we sit here this afternoon, typing these words of imperishable prose, a snow squall is rapidly whitening the ground to make an ideal setting for our Christmas column. Before we know it that festal will be here, and this year, more than those years in the immediate past, we have so much to rejoice about. This year may truly give that traditional greeting of the Christmas season, and say with light hearts, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Such is our wish for you.

Our 30th reunion will be held on schedule next June. The planning for this big event has been started and will be greatly accelerated with the completion of the reunion committee personnel in the near future. Announcements concerning the reunion will be made as soon as possible, either in this column or through Dick Morin's '24 Hour Notice. Watch for them! In the meantime, make a mental note that you have a big date in Hanover, next June. Start your "lay away" plan now, in order that you'll be in funds, and will be ready when the great day comes.

Not long ago received a note from AlexGibson, bringing us up to date on the Gibson family. During the past two years Alex has been keeping out of trouble by devoting his spare time to research and study in connection with the publication of The History of McIndoes Academy. This history was written in commemoration of the Academy's Centennial celebration which was held this past summer. Aside from his activities as an historian, Alex and his wife keep busy with their teaching, and seem to find time to do some work with local Republican groups. Their daughter Barbara is at Wellesley, while Sandy is a fifth former at the Holderness School.

lust a day or two ago we received a cute little announcement from Kathryn andVaughn Berry advising us of the arrival of Barbara Ann, who was born on August 20. Since receiving this announcement, we have attempted some research in an effort to determine the identity of the father of our Class Baby, but apparently this information is too deeply buried in the distant past. There is no doubt, however, that Vaughn holds the record as the progenitor of the most recent addition to the Class family. Our heartiest congratulations to the proud parents and a warm greeting to little Barbara Ann.

We were delighted to receive a letter from Frank Mandel not too long ago. Frank is a very busy boy out there in the Chicago area, and despite a wide variety of business enterprises, he still finds time to do a lot for various civic organizations. For the past five years he has been chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation, and is also on the board of a large private hospital which is in the midst of an extensive building program. It's nice to know of these worthwhile activities, and to realize that our classmates, in such substantial numbers, are giving of their time and talents to the furtherance of the civic welfare of their

communities. Another welcome correspondent during the past month was Cap Whitney, writing on the letterhead of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Cap has been with Northwestern Bell for a good many years, and right now he has himself a job. All he is responsible for is the compilation, production, manufacturing and distribution of telephone books for five (count 'em) states. Wow! That's a lot of numbers! Cap is known as the General Directory Engineer, and operates our of the company's main office in Omaha, Nebr. He writes, "In spite of the fact that telephone books do not have a breathtaking plot, and even though they are not particularly interesting reading, they are practically a household necessity and we issue an awful lot of them. I am finding my new work both interesting and enjoyable.

Cap says that he and Lillian are living at 1734 South 36th St., Omaha, and that the welcome mat is always out for old acquaintances. Travellers please note. Their two daughters are married, and the Whitney.s have two granddaughters of whom they are extremely fond. This seems to be a common failing among grandparents, for we know of none who will not tell you that their grandchildren are the greatest playmates a fella ever had. And what's more, they're probably right!

On the evening of October 30, members of the Class living in the New York area got together for a dinner meeting at the Dartmouth Club. With instructions to sip at six and sup at seven everyone was right on time. Twelve stalwarts gathered about the festive board and spent a very pleasont evening talking of this and that. Among those present were included Walt Kidde, Stub Reed (a rather recent refugee from the environs of Washington), Roily Barker, Doug Craig,Frank Granata, Charlie Amelung, Harr Ranney, Hal Cereghino, Charlie Kearns, Bob Hall,Don Coyle and yours truly. George Traver, who organized the party, unfortunately was unable to attend owing to a last-minute business commitment. Those of us who were there, however, certainly enjoyed the results of his labors.

A month or so ago you received a bill from our Treasurer, George Anderson, covering this year's dues. This bill for dues includes a year's subscription to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and covers the bare minimum we must have if the. Treasury is to remain solvent. In order to continue our dues at the current rate of $4 we need at least fifty new dues paying members. Most classes have already given up the struggle against rising costs, and have increased their dues substantially. Your officers are opposed to doing this except as a last resort, but we must have increased support throughout the Class if we are to continue at our present figure. If you haven't already done so, get your check off to George today. It will help a lot.

At this Christmas .season, when our thoughts turn naturally to doing things for others, think a bit about our Memorial Book Fund. We still need money to complete this wonderful and altogether satisfying project. If you have not yet had a share in this program, why not send me your check today. We are nearing our goal, and your help will enable us to put it across. That's a nice spot for Christmas giving, don't you think?

And speaking of Christmas, Lou joins with me in extending to every one of you our very best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Peaceful New Year. A Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night.
