There have been two Class get-togethers this fall, in addition to the one in Chicago, which was reported last month. The Boston clan threw a picnic before the Harvard game, which was reported in some detail in the Speak, and the New York gang had a dinner the Thursday night prior to the Yale game, In the hope that I may be able to beat Les to the punch, I'll report on the latter here.

Sparked by Sam Wormser, the 1927 men in the New York area gathered for a dinner at the Dartmouth Club on Thursday evening, October 29. Interest in the affair was doubtless stimulated by announcements that a feature of the evening would be a discussion of the athletic situation in Hanover, particularly as it related to the lack of success of the football team this fall. (Remember that this was all before the Yale game, and things looked different then than they did a few days later.) My informant tells me that discussion waxed hot and heavy until late in the evening, and it is probable that, if the coaches, the Director of Admissions, and the members of the Athletic Council could have all been there, all of our athletic problems would now be solved, though it would be too much to assume that the 32 to o score of the Yale game was a direct result of the meeting. In all seriousness, I feel certain that discussions of this sort have a very stimulating effect, and that if the thoughts that are expressed are passed on to the proper authorities of the College, as they were in this case, they are bound to have beneficial results.

There was an excellent turnout for the meeting. Those in attendance included Bill Crane, Lev Lyons, Ed Frey, Dud Bonsai, Hank Bayles, Bunny Smith, Stew Schackne, Ted Swanson, Rog Bury, Lee Greenebaum, Herbie Howe, Josh Davis, Jim O'Leary, Bill Williams, Slim Ensinger, Rudy Preuss, Seth Besse, Ted Girault, Ken Ballantyne, A1 Lagacy, Paul Pierson, Joe Creamer, Ken Murray, Tom Gillespie, Tom Hession, Joe Russakoff, Don Proudman, and Sam Wormser.

Art Kelleher was in the Club at the time of the meeting, but couldn't attend, as he was tied up with a meeting of the Long Island enrollment committee, of which he is chairman. Joe Creamer was celebrating the arrival of his sixth child, a son, earlier in the week. The next scheduled meeting of the New York group is to be either March 1 or 2, so those of you who are apt to be in New York around that time had better mark your calendars, and plan to be there. From past experience, I can attest that these meetings are well worth

attending. At the risk of repeating what you have already read in the Speak, in order to make the record complete, I think that a few words about the Boston gathering the previous Saturday would be in order. After several very unpromising days, Saturday dawned warm and sunny, and those who attended enjoyed a perfect day for the picnic, which was held in the area outside the Harvard stadium, though the results of the game were not so happy. Though the attendance was not up to expectations, due in part to the bad weather on the days just before, those who were there were unanimous in the thought that this should be made an annual affair. Those attending were Doane and Marie Arnold,Charlie and Barbara Bartlett, Bill andMarjorie Elliott with daughter Barbara, Philand Madeline Fowler, Bill and Kay Prescott with son Bill and girl friend, Andy and DodaRankin with daughter Faith, Rog and MidgeSalinger, with daughter Weezie, Bob and PegWilliamson, and Les Battin.

Don Colby (Ira Gordon, Jr. in his more formal moments) represented the College at the dedication on October 18 of the new campus and buildings at the New Haven State Teachers' College. Don is past president of the Connecticut State Association of Dartmouth Clubs, and of the Dartmouth Club of New Haven. He has two sons in college, James in the Class of '54, and Ira in the Class of '56. He is a partner in the law firm of Daggett, Colby and Hooker, in New Haven.

Having devoted this column so far entirely to New England and New York, it is a pleasure to move out to the great Midwest for the rest of the items. My detectives supplied me with the information that Ed Ruth was back in Detroit, and a letter to him elicited the following information: Ed says that General Motors has evidently run out of new places to send him, as his latest move is the first one that has put him back in a place where he was previously. He is now manager of the Detroit zone for Oldsmobile, and as Toledo is in his territory I have hopes of seeing him occasionally. Ed says that the move to Detroit was welcome, as they like Michigan next to California, even though he is now right under the big guns. He has his headquarters in the General Motors Building, and lives at 661 Covington Drive, and would like to see any 1927 men who happen to be in Detroit.

Visitors to the Hanover Inn during the past month are all from this part of the country, Sikes Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bliss, and Dr.and Mrs. Dow Mills. Don't you guys from the East know a good thing when you have it right at your door?

Don McCall, who is now living at 820 Grand Ave., Everett, Wash., writes that he has had a busy summer breaking in on his new job. Don arrived in Everett in late June, and Betty, Mimi, and Patty moved out in August. Fent got there about the middle of September, so the family is now all together again. They have a house overlooking Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, and have been spending what little free time they have exploring the country. Don is very enthusiastic about his new work, and about the Pacific Northwest, though they naturally miss all their friends in New York. If any of you get to Everett, be sure to let him know that you are there.

These notes have been kept as short as possible at the request of the Editor, so that there will be room to print the list of contributors to last year's Alumni Fund. I hope that your name is on the list. It it isn't, you know what to do to correct the situation next year.
