I received the unfortunate news from Hanover a few short days ago that Elmer "Steve"Stevens has been taken ill and will be unable to continue with the column. We all hope it 's not too serious. Dorothy Stevens was very prompt and cooperative in sending material, supplies, address lists, etc., to me.

You were good enough to put up with my renderings in this column for a few years before we elected Steve at our sth Reunion, so I hope you will find the column reasonably newsy for the few remaining issues before our Big Tenth in June.

That takes me right into the news that I want to really put in a plug for! That's the reunion!

You know, we've only been out of College ten years now, and to talk with some of our classmates you'd think they had one foot in the grave. It's all in the mind. What they need - what we all need, and should take - is a visit to the "Fountain of Youth" - the scene of our many good times, Hanover, the dates —June 19 to 21.

Break open the piggy bank and add a little to it so you can make the trek to Hanover to see some of the boys, now balding, pot-bellied, etc., but basically the same as they were then - it's an experience you'll never forget. Ask the boys who were there in '48. This is your last chance 'till 1959.

Bob Atkinson, helping Damp Dampter on the reunion committee, reports that: "The tentative plans as now outlined by the grand ring-master, call for a program lasting from Friday evening, June 19, until the last participant drops from exhaustion on the following Sunday. We hope to begin with a buffet supper at 6:30 P.M., to be followed by a reception by President Dickey, beginning at 7:45, and an alumni dance at 9:00. Naturally, for those who have never learned to dance, or who are now too old, there will be beer and skittles at the class tent.

"On Saturday all sorts of unusual things are planned, such as a class picture at 10:30, class meeting at 10:45, class movies, luncheon in the gym, and a picnic and softball game, beer, etc., after that.

"Sunday will be Sunday.

"As soon as the necessary tariff, uniform and rooming arrangements are known, we shall be mailing out information and announcements to each member of the class."

That schedule doesn't sound like too much, but actually you'll crowd more fun into those two days than you can imagine.

We have 628 members of our class, 464 grads, 164 non-grads. Let's see lots of you there!

I'm afraid my column will be more academic than newsy this time. I just haven't had time to gather news. Please help me for the next two issues. Pictures will be appreciated.

For your information, the present class officers, other than those listed above, are: Class Executive Committee, Sparky Adams,Damp Dampier, Farmer Mead, Jim Elleman,Ray McMahon, Jug O'Connor, Dick Bugbee and myself as an honorary member (as ex-class Secretary). Elmer Stevens, of course, is present Class Secretary.

I mention this because I've got to check with Steve to put together a nominating committee to come up with a slate of nominees for the class to vote on at reunion. Please think this over, and if you can't be in Hanover, send me your suggestions, both for the committee and the nominees.

By the way, why not hold some pre-reunion get-togethers in your city? I'd be glad to try to arrange to ship our class movies to you for the occasion.

Here are a few items from here and there: Andy Caffrey, lawyer, Kiley and CafErey in Lawrence, Mass.; Bill Glovsky, son, third boy, Charles S., born recently; Paul Hanlon, last reported in Seattle - (look up Lee Anderson, Paul, he's a lawyer there too); KellyCoffin made supervisor of the Connecticut Mutual's Paul L. Guibord (Dartmouth man) Agency in New York; Fred Richardson seen skiing by your scribe at Cannon Mt. recently; Jerry Souers writing feature articles in BetterHomes and Gardens-, Bob Liming, doctor on Salem (Mass.) hospital staff now.

Following '43s in Hanover recently: W. R.Robinson, Doc and Mrs. Charlie Kane, and Doc and Mrs. Harry Bishop.

Visited with Mike and Connie Thurston in Maine recently for ski weekend, also saw Boband Anne Pelren. They are all planning on reunion.

Don Reich was recently made Manager of Planning at Mergenthaler Linotype in Brooklyn. Bob Taylor recently joined the same company as Cost Supervisor. The third member of our class in the company is Bob Pinto who is in Rio de Janeiro as Sales Manager for Brazil.

Stan Lambert is travelling for Alcoa, and finally Kelly Coffin, to whom I am indebted for quite a bit of news, and wife Janie, are expecting in July —"might just foul up the reunion plans," but he hopes not!

I want to close with a swell letter from a swell guy —another you'll see soon in Han- over, Doc Fielding.

"It may funny my writing a letter after having been at dinner with you only last night, but I have to say a couple of thousand words on the situation that presented itself at the Sheraton-Plaza last evening at the Alumni Dinner. Right up until it was time to go and eat, I tried to find (between beers) a '43 or two to slap on the back - well, I did pretty well, I found 8 of them - and looked forward to dinner with a bunch more - but when we got to the table, I found the same 8, and that's all. I don't know how many of the most outstanding class that ever went to Dartmouth there are living in Boston, but I know there are more than 8 - but you couldn't have proved it last night - I might add that the 'orrible octet that was present - Bill Glovsky, Farmer Mead, Stan Levin, AndyCaffrey, Hank Perley, Jug O Connor, you and I - had a hell of a fine time. Of course, the conversations now no longer deal with Leb and the Junction, but instead the talk gets around to 'I got three boys, how about you?' As for me I can say that at the present time I am about 4/9 a father, and being an obstetrician-gynecologist anyway, Sue comes in for more than her share of clinical observation. We have just moved to Boston and I'm practicing my specialty at 203 Commonwealth Avenue, and teaching at the B.U. Medical School.

"My observations about the Alumni dinner bring me of course to the next item on the agenda - what about reunion? I know that Bill, Farmer, Stan, Andy, Hank, Jug, you and I would make a lovely group at Hanover this summer, but it would be swell if some of the 632 odd (and I don't mean very odd) other '43s were there with us. What are the possibilities? Anyone who was there for the sth certainly will remember the fun we had despite the rain, and I don't see how any of them can afford to miss the 10th. The only way it will be really great is if we get a big group together for another big bust. I know that Maury Dampier will be applying all his psychology from New York, and I hope that we can do the same from Boston. I am looking forward to renewing many friendships at that time - and if my expected jokes and antics kept anyone away last time let me say that this time I promise to sit quietly in a corner and sip my beer, and discuss only the field of obstetrics and gynecology with my fellow medics.

"The best of luck to you Fred in your efforts to make our tenth reunion the best tenth reunion ever held anywhere."

I'd also address a note to the gals of '43 because I think they're the best bet to get the old man out of his soft chair, pipe and slippers, and off to Hanover!

Please send me news and pictures. See you June 19!
