I have just received word that Bill Ferguson passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas, December 17. Bill had been with the Arabian American Oil Company for the past several years and had spent much of his time in Saudi Arabia. His loss is greatly felt by all of us who held him so highly in our esteem.

I caught a Sunday Tribune in one of my recent travels and noted that Long JohnEaton pushed champion Corny Shields in the L.I. Froste Bite sailing classic on Lincoln's Birthday, but got a bit fouled up on the final leg, and came in second... a very respectable position considering the competition out that way.
There has been quite a dearth of newsworthy items about our compatriots, and as such, I followed the Jelke bonanza with an expectant eye. I am sorry to report that not a single '44 was mentioned. Let's hope we'll do better in the event of an appeal.

Still haven't heard how Don Oakes and his Rikkyo eleven made out in their bid for the Japanese national title at the Koshien Bowl, Pearl Harbor day. My oriental sources have been stilled of late ... but I hope to have the score for you next month. In the athletic vein, I received a second-hand report that RockyDavidson got down to Augusta and took his poisoned paddles out to Bobby Jones' new swing and swear emporium. According to the story, the Rock was at his very suavest best, cut a nice figure on the first tee, and then before all the spectators took a monumental swing at the pellet... missed it completely ... calmly turned to his caddy and admitted, "By God, this is a tough course!"
Andy "The Honker" Carstensen blew into town recently, cutting a figure J. Squeeze would be proud of. Andy is a manufacturer's agent and in his line is carrying Earl Flood's corrosion resistant paint primer, Penetrol, a marvelous product with unlimited commercial applications. The Honker reported that his gentle friends, "Fantastic" Smith and "Moose" Marlow are upholding their reputations.
Here in Cincinnati there is an association of itinerant after-dinner speakers known as the "Speakeasy Club." I saw Don Hinkley there tonight and I learned that Bob Gilchrist, tenaciously retaining his bachelorhood, has just joined a new law firm in Cleveland ... and that Eastman Kodak shares dipped a bit when Dick Mayberry decided to give up emulsions for manufacturing up in Rochester.
And speaking about lawyers, if we were, Jim Donnelly was named county attorney in Worcester.... The romantic spotlight focuses this month on Natalie Carey of Bronxville and MartieShea who made known their plans for a spring wedding. Natalie's dad is the founder of the Carey Cab service from airports ... so the next time you miss your plane you know who to contact. Martie, incidentally, is another of our legal eagles.
