Y. DailyNews advertising wheel; Rocky Davidson, man of leisure; Joe Dammon and OscarGoedecke. These are merely the men X spotted in section NH.
Dick Whiting, now winding up his last year at Yale Law, reports a second blessed event for Don and Betty Burnham, young Judson Dunnaway Burnham .... and the recent marriage of Larry Ritter to Gladys Rube. Larry is in his third year at Yale Law.
New York City '44s frequently lunch together at the Dartmouth club thanks to Rickey Lewis' organization. Seen at the last luncheon were Willy Ard, advertising manager of Warner Brothers, who is responsible for that fine campaign on Alfred Hitchcock's "Rope" .... incidentally, Willy & family just moved to Scarsdale this week; "Pinky" Corroon, Willy's "swing and swear" companion for mid-week golfing, is making a good name for himself in the insurance field. The Pink, notorious at Dartmouth and in the Army for difficulty in early morning arising, now of his own volition, wakes up before 7 A.M. to play with his little baby; "Swampy"- Marsh, rugged individualist, said to hell with his neon sign business and is now on vacation; Bill McElnae, with the NY Industrial Bank, has broken ground in Greenwich for the McElnae Dream House. Bill and Janie will be proud parents by the time this letter is out; BillWhite, blase as ever, stated that the only item newsworthy about himself is that he and the missus are NOT expecting a baby; "Needle"Allen in an effort to digest the meal following the luncheon sat down to a game of backgammon with Jug Agry. It was6:30 P.M. when the industrial slaves first looked at the Ingersoll; Tommy Minor, who was just able to make the luncheon at the last moment got stuck with the $5.00 tip; Frank West, CyThompson, "Tank" Bruce, Johnny Eaton, and Dave Wilson rounded out the group.
Don Davidson is doing exceptionally well in corporation law with the offices of Sullivan & Cromwell, NYC. Steve Flynn, has been hiked up in Station Relations with NBC Television and is one of the most enthusiastic '44s in regards to his job. Gil Frank, an executive of Atlantic Drain, spent a good musical vacation in the Berkshires. Gil Gabriel, promotional director of a publishing consultant house is largely responsible for those letters you receive asking why you failed to renew your magazine subscriptions. Gil passes along word that Charlie Fox, seeking his fortune in oil, has just left the States again.... this time for Saudi Arabia. Cheves Hyde has settled down with a pretty wife and the Royal Typewriter Cos still not satisfied, he wants a place to live yet.... anyone in and around NYC with a solution to this problem please let me know. Brack Haien has his own advertising agency and at present is snowed with the publicity job for the coming NY Antique Fair. Brack reports that Bill Gatlin is now poppa of a junior. Jack and Bill Maguire are working together in the John P. Maguire Cos., factoring..... Jack is daddy of a little boy and Bill of a little girl. Ham Rowan is doing liaison work with foreign branch offices for the Guarantee Trust Cos. in NYC. Jack Sterling is in Sales Development for the NY DailyNews and, from what I understand, is quite a civic gear in the home town of Greenwich.
sArt Kiendl, thru with his studies at Columbia, is, according to newspaper reports, now in Hanover as assistant dean. Burt Bickford was recently engaged to Ester Sherburne o£ Tyngsboro, Mass other good tidings of romance bring news of Leonard Kokins' marriage to Barbara Mcßride. Bill Ashley is now in Casper, Wyo. with the exploration department of the Stanolind Oil and Gas Cos. .... while Harold Jamison, field engineer for the Baroid Cos. is sniffing out oil deposits in Texas. And speaking about oil, I understand that Whit Wells is now the merchandising representative for Gulf in the Hub area.
A report on our wandering physicians: Dr.John Wheeler and wife Virginia have returned stateside after a year plus duty in Trinidad .... they announce the arrival of their third child, Joyce Anne. Dr. George Kent finished his internship at the Indiana U. Med. School, now starting residency in Pathology at Colorado U., and awaiting a second visit from the stork. John Tope stopped in to see fellow doc Ted Mortimer at Mare Island while on his way to Japan. Ted and wife Joan became parents of an 8 lb. little miss July 26. Dr. Bob Nystrom still in Korea.
Received a nice letter from Fritzer Hier, the multi-faceted faculty member of Triple Cities College, who has hung up his gloves in favor of the poisoned paddles, and insists he toured 18 holes in a sub-100 effort. As Fritz learned golf scoring from Rock Davidson, we reserve Congrats. Fritz passes along word of Don Currier distributing druggist supplies from Darien headquarters; of Wemo Epply whipping his direct mail advertising business into shape; and of the recent wedding festivities for "Mike" Ives, at which Bruce Dean stood in attendance as usher.
I just received a copy of the posthumous Bronze Star award made to Steve Holmes for heroic action at Peleliu where he commanded a flame throwing unit. This action took place half a year before his untimely death at Iwo Jima.
Within the past few weeks, the Hanover Inn has been graced with the return of the following '44s .... Babe Spitz and wife, DonDunbar, Dr. and Mrs. Bob Lindsey, Karl Sorg and wife, Frank McWilliams, George and Mrs.Ives, and Bob and Mrs. Laidlaw.
