THE weather and the Dartmouth sports scene seemed to coincide perfectly as this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE went to press. A warm spell had melted away most of the winter's accumulation of snow and ice, while the balmy air held a promise that spring was at last at hand. On the sports front, even as the basketball team embarked for Ithaca, N. Y., and its final game of the season against Cornell, the basketball floor at the Alumni Gymnasium was being taken up and the baseball nets were hung from the rafters. Davis Hockey Rink held its ice just long enough for the traditional clash between the varsity and an alumni all-star aggregation, but the melting pools on the rink surface as the game progressed showed more graphically than any words or photographs the need for the artificial ice system that will be installed this summer. A dual track meet with Yale and the Eastern Intercollegiate and NCAA swimming meets are all that remains of the Dartmouth winter schedules. This month's report, then, will mirror the weather and the changing sports scene to discuss briefly the Dartmouth varsity winter sports and then preview the spring sports outlook.
