June again and the end of the Alumni Fund Drive. Congratulations to Class Agent StanNewton and his 50 associates for the superb record they're posting. It entailed some hard work, but the results are certainly satisfying. And congratulations to the rest of you, without whose cooperation and contributions '45's Fund drive could never have been so successful.

Lots of news this month, so here we go: From Fred Schmitt comes a newsletter form which he asked me to channel properly. A pleasure, Fred. Fred, after graduating from Yale Law School in 1951, did some mountaineering in Europe for a few months and then went to work. First for the Square D Company of Detroit, in labor relations, and now as Personnel Director of Hydraulic Tools Corporation where his work involves labor relations, from negotiating a contract to supervising the employees' picnic.

Dick Kendall of Augusta, Me., writes that he is an industrial engineer (efficiency expert) for the Bates Mfg. Co. He also is the father of five sons. That's efficiency for you! 1 think You're the class champion, Dick; in fact, I don't think there's any doubt about it.

Howie Sawyer and wife Anne are my best correspondents to date. I received a swell letter from Howie in Korea just a few days after getting a note from Anne in Pennsylvania. Lots of information. Howie, an Army doctor, applied for duty in Germany and, of course, ended up in Korea where he had already seen 15 months service. ("Moral," says Anne, "Never volunteer for anything.") Last month's column carried an article on Howie's activities in Korea, and his letter mentions this activity plus several more. Howie says he has classified info on how to determine the sex of your children. Cites his case as an example. Has three boys and just added a girl to his family. (" 'Bout time we had a girl to help Ma," says Anne.) Stan Newton, take note. Between Howie and Dick Kendall, Stan, you should be able to solve your problem. Howie says he's seen Gene Calvelli around Pusan. Gene is "working a hospital train." And here's a humorous situation as recounted by Howie; "Last night a fire truck ran smack into a house in the red light district. Our admission ward was full of groaning, moaning young ladies of easy virtue, painted and perfumed fit to kill, but not too seriously injured to try to drum up a little business among the corpsmen." Don Brandt, Fredonia, N. Y., attorney, has been appointed counsel to the New York State Flood Control Commission. Don received his Law degree from Cornell in 1949 and has been in Fredonia since. He is president of the board of trustees of the First Presbyterian Church, secretary of the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Fredonia Rotary Club and a Mason. Has three daughters, a beagle hound (male), and a wonderful wife Kathryn, who sent all this info along to me.

A short note from Holden Farrar, at Present stationed in England as Captain (M.C.) USAF. Married in April '52, Holden's family according to the note, should now have a new addition. Statistics, please. .

Odds 'n ends from here 'n there; Phil Trier engaged to Miss Marilyn Robb of Chicago, Ill. Marilyn is a graduate of the University of Chicago. Bob Allen of Hanover bobs up into the news as being named to the Program and Speakers Committee of the New Hampshire Whooper Week Executive Board and also as speaking at the Dartmouth Club of New York previously to the Alumni Fund Drive. RodShepherd, with wife and two daughters, mov ing to 23 Strathmore Road, Wellesley, Mass. Don Cutter, winning second place in the 1000- meter slalom race at Garmisch recreation area in Germany. Don is a first lieutenant. WillHufstader named chairman of the business division of the Evanston, Ill., Red Cross Drive. And visiting in Hanover during the spring have been Don MacKay, Paul Cover and George Pulliam. See you next fall. Have a good summer and send me all the news.
