This was one of the good months. Not only did I get letters, postcards, photographs and clippings, but I also received a phone call from the internationally known petroleum geologist, Bob "Hound-dog" Garwick, of Houston, Texas.

It could be that Bob just brought in another oil well and was celebrating. However, probably the main reason for such exuberance was the announcement that the Garwicks expect to surpass the Hans Huessys as the most prolific '42 couple. Frankly I can't remember whether this makes the record six or seven, but anyway — wow!

Charlie Sturz with his notices of annual class dues comes in for his share of the credit for swelling my mail. And no one writes to complain about the dues. That five dollars is quite a reasonable figure when you stop to think ... pays for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, too. So shoot Charlie the five clams and when you do, drop me a line. Tell us what's going on with you and yours and any other '42s you know about.

That "Furious Fifteenth" is getting closer every day. Now that you've cleaned out your Christmas savings account, start filling your piggy bank for the trip to Hanover next June. June 15-17, Friday through Sunday, is the official time. The line-up for class reunions to be held during this three day period is: 1916, 1931, 1940, 1941, 1942 and 1946, so you can count on seeing lots of your friends in other classes, too.

From my mail I can see that a lot of you are thinking about the reunion next year. That's good news and I like to hear about it. But more important than writing me is for you all to start writing all your old buddies in the class. See if you can work up a party to go back for reunion together. Or even meet in Hanover. You'll be repaid for your letter-writing many times over in added enjoyment of the big reunion weekend.

Al Britton, our current reunion chairman, and Dave Heald, chairman of the Tenth Reunion, have had several get-togethers to discuss specific plans for the 15th Reunion. It would help if we could give the committee some hints on what we all want at reunion.

What about the tariff? Is $25 apiece a reasonable figure for the deal? Remember how much food we had at the Tenth? I think you could get '42 food all around the clock. Is that too much emphasis on chow? Any comments or suggestions you might have would be most helpful. Just drop me a note.

Dave and Jane Heald are currently holding forth with their three boys and a girl in and about Manchester, N. H. For a year Dave has been sales manager for Profit Sharing Systems, Incorporated, with headquarters in Manchester. They install, design and administer profit sharing plans in all types of businesses. Evidently the program combines a pension plan and an incentive plan. There is no fixed dollar cost each year, since only a percentage of the profits goes into an employee trust. The money is fully tax deductible, participants pay no income tax and the fund's earnings from investments are tax free. Sounds good, Dave. You sure it's legal?

Bud Dutton, the Charleston, S. C., city planner, stopped in Hanover in the course of a business trip to Canada this fall. He reports that Harry Bond, Mike de Sherbinin and Gardie Bridge have made it living in Hanover. (This is news?) But also saw a couple of parttime Vermont farmers, Bill. Uptegrove and Dave Sills. Bill is a city planner in Greenwich, Conn., when not on the farm. Dave is writing a book under the auspices of the Columbia University Bureau for Applied Social Research.

Robert B. Hill has been appointed executive director of the North Shore Children's Friend Society outside of Boston, Mass. Bob was a patrol plane commander for the Navy in Europe during World War II. He received his Master's degree in Social Service from Boston University in 1947. After serving with the Rhode Island Department of Social Welfare he went to Boston as worker and later supervisor in the boys' division of the Children's Aid Association.

There was an interesting story in the CapeCod Standard Times awhile back about Lt.F. L. Dixon Yard. Frederick Loring Dixon Yard was in the Class of '42 at Dartmouth, graduated from Rollins, studied at the University of Chile, Middlebury Language School and now is working towards his Master's in Spanish Literature at Boston University. He has taught languages in college and high school. His maritime experience has included work at the Navy Base in Puerto Rico and service aboard various ships of the Maritime Transport Lines and the United Fruit Company. He has his Chief Mate's license and rates a lieutenant in the U. S. Maritime Service. Now he is serving as an academic instructor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Down from the mountains comes word from John de la Montague. He and Phoebe and the kids spent last summer in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where John did geological work under the auspices of the U. S. Geological Survey. John is now teaching geology at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., and doing weekend research work near North Park, Colo. Not satisfied with just having completed his Ph.D., he is now expanding his thesis.

Anyone want in on the birth of a new, small liberal arts college in the mountain west? See John de la Montagne for further details. John also reports seeing Bill Temple engaged in a brick business in Golden. Bob Pitman is doing gelogical supervisory work for the A.E.C. out of Grand Junction, Colorado.

One matrimonial note: Major Jonathan deSola Mendes USMC, executive officer of Marine Fighter Squadron 132, is engaged to Miss Mary Ellen Rosenbluth. He holds the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with eight gold stars, and she is studying painting at the Art Students League in New York.

Oliver A. Quayle III, of Bronxville, is a Democratic candidate for Eastchester Town Councilman, according to the Scarsdale (N. Y.) Inquirer. A resident of Bronxville, he is an associate in the market research firm, Elmo Roper and Associates.

Best wishes to all for a very Merry Christmass and a Happy New Year. Here are a couple of thoughts for New Year's Resolutions: (1) Start plans to come to Hanover next June for reunion; (2) Send Charlie Sturz your $5 class dues; (3) Write me a letter!
