Now it's official! The announcement has been made that Charlie Sturz was elected comptroller and assistant treasurer of the Yellow Manufacturing Acceptance Corporation. YMAC is the unit of General Motors which finances wholesale- and retail sales of trucks and coaches for the General Motors Corporation Truck and Coach Division. Charlie has been lurking around Detroit and Birmingham for months evading questions about his official capacity with GM. He was probably hoping to drive a better bargain on his house by concealing his capacity as a key executive. General Motors is finally verifying the keen insight the Class showed eighteen months ago in electing our boy class treasurer. These big outfits are inclined to move rather slowly you know.

The man with the heritage of leadership, son of Boston's former fire commissioner, Edward F. McLaughlin Jr. was elected to Boston's City Council last fall. Not only was he elected, but he showed surprising strength, finishing well up on the list as one of only two newcomers to make the grade. This was Ed's first bid for an elective office. Let's hope he can do something about that Boston traffic foul-up.

Joe McCormick writes to say that he enjoyed his honeymoon in Bermuda (sounds logical). U.S. Rubber claims the services of Joe in Woonsocket, R. I., and Fred Nichols in Boston.

Florida outdoor advertising tycoon JackZimmer is moving his base of operations to Orlando. Nita presented him with their second child and first son last fall and Jack probably wants to keep his boy away from Miami's bright lights. Jack reports seeing WallyMeckes peddling core oil in Cleveland and also going duck hunting with "Spook" Conway while escaping Miami's rainy season with an Ohio trip.

Another proud father checks in from Walnut Creek, Calif., where Sally and HerschelDaniel Rix had their first child, a boy, last fall. Well, Dan, congratulations, you're doing fine, but bear in mind you're still some distance behind "Hound Dog" Garwick, BudMcKinlay, etc., in the matter of offspring totals. But for that matter, most of us would find that competition equally tough.

Walnut Creek also boasts the residence of Fred Brutschy and family, so the Class of '42 is well represented there to say the least.

Mr. and Mrs. George Tarasovic of Bridgeport, Conn., have announced the engagement of their daughter Mary to John D. Brewster, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Brewster of Dallas, Pa. After leaving Dartmouth John attended the Academy of Aeronautics, served with the 282nd Infantry regiment during the war, and graduated from the University of Bridgeport. He is currently in the mortgage department of the City Savings Bank in Bridgeport.

At Worcester Academy last fall alumnus Luis Zalamea, Latin-American liaison officer in the United Nations public information department, showed movies and spoke on the U.N. He discussed the U.N. assistance to technically underdeveloped countries and introduced a movie entitled U.N. and What ItDoes and one on the development of Bolivia. Luis has served as assistant chief editor of the Spanish edition of the United Nations Bulletin and has held editorial, advertising and public relations posts in his native Colombia and in New York City. He recently returned from a nine-month good will tour of nineteen Latin American Nations where he was sent to dramatize the U.N.'s public information program.

Morris Guberman, president of Kaufman's Department Store in Colorado Springs, has announced the appointment of John Middleton as ready-to-wear merchandise manager. John will initially buy for and merchandise the women's and misses' coat and suit departments, and directly merchandise and supervise the major ready-to-wear departments. Departments for which he will buy include medium priced and better dresses, junior dresses and suits and sportswear, and budget dresses, casual daytime dresses and aprons and uniforms. John has been with the Macy organization since the end of the war. He started with the executive training squad in New York City and most recently was with Macy's in Kansas City. During the war he was in the Naval Reserve commanding a subchaser. Only one question remains. Can he get it for us wholesale?

The Dartmouth Club of New York reports that Dave Heald, once the Boniface of the Hanover Inn, drops in to see them from time to time. His public relations activities for "This is New Hampshire, Inc.," at Concord, N. H., conveniently bring him to New York occasionally.

Gaby and Ira Berman have added a second son to their one-and-one set-up in Newtonville, Mass. Ira's rubber business keeps him snapping, but still allows him time to get up to Hanover now and then to keep an eye on things for us.

Though I suppose Jim Farley, Mike deSherbinin and our other members of the esteemed journalism fraternity would disapprove heartily, I personally don't stop at the thought of passing on a bit of unverified information. The word has reached me that Dr.Walter Eisenman is a Fellow at the Mayo Foundation in Rochester, Minn. Now I don't even know what that means or, for that matter, if it's true, but since all the lines to Rochester are busy I'll just toss it in for what it's worth. In the same category is the word that Art Stukey is now staff industrial engineer for Thompson Products, Inc., in Cleveland. Any illumination on either case would be greatly appreciated.

Speaking of appreciation, Charlie Sturz, who while he may only be an assistant treasurer at YMAC is the full-blown garden variety for the Class of 1942, has gobs of it (appreciation that is) for those who have sent in their five for the class treasury. He is also eager to get a similar token from those unheard from thus far. As for me, I don't even ask for your money - just drop me a line.

NEW VICE PRESIDENT: Charles F. Sturz '42 was recently made vice president of Yellow Manufacturing Acceptance Corp., a unit of General Motors. Sturz joined this company in 1946.

Secretary, 1369 Stanley Blvd. Birmingham, Mich.
