The American press is beginning to give well deserved credit to '46. The Boston papers carried a nice story on Billy Riley. Bill placed first in New England and sixth nationally in Oldsmobile sales in 1954. This is sensational selling. He is a salesman for the Cadillac-Oldsmobile Automobile Company of Boston. Seems as Bill's high-scoring prowess on the ice for the Green has been matched in pace by his high-scoring sales ability. Incidentally, from the very complete files of Eddie Jeremiah, comes the report of Bill's four-year scoring record for Dartmouth. He led in scoring for four years plus, having the highest scoring record in the history of Dartmouth hockey. And releases from the Southland tell of PhilStedfast's fine work as director of city planning for Columbia, S. C. Recently Phil addressed a huge assembly of southern ladies on the aims of the planning commission. It's interesting to see an old Yankee like Phil working magic on this stronghold of the old south.

Moving to that great Dartmouth feeding state, Ohio, we read of the gregarious Gus Gillaugh and his truly fabulous success in life insurance. Gus is now the general agent for the New England Mutual people in Dayton. He has an office with eight associates working for him, and he is anxious to sign on two more promising young men. You can be assured Gus is "Mr. Dayton." Staying a moment in the Midwest, a headline reads, "Pillsbury Knox Dean of Men." Yeassir, old Pills is now Dr.Wilbur F. Pillsbury and has just been appointed dean of men at Knox College in Peoria, Ill. He was professor of economics there. Congratulations, Pills.

When this reaches you the Alumni Fund will be in the stretch; '46 has got to hit it this year. If you haven't sent your gift, this is the day to test that new ball point pen of yours. Post date the check if it's not near enough to pay day. I tried it; it works. By and large, I think the best part of our number could afford between $10-$25 this year. Dartmouth deserves it.

Here are some vignettes on some of your old cronies: Dr. Wayne Frerichs is an ear, nose and throat specialist in Phoenix, Ariz. He and Ruthie have a 4-year-old Douglas. Wayne's come a long way from the days he was slicing up that old ganster's corpse at "Sy's" very excellent Med School.

Ray Hellman is a daddy of twins. He and Enid have two 7½-year-old girls and a 17-month-old boy. Ray's an architect with Ferris & Erskine. Bob Leslie is with the Corporate Buying Dept. of Blyth & Co. in N.Y.C. He's booming in the great bull market. He and Betty have three children; Judith, 5, Bob Jr., 2 i/o, and Donald, 3 months. See Bob regularly at some of the more "well brushed and combed places," like Hillman's Beer and Jazz Hall located just outside Hartsdale in beautiful Westchester County - Dartmouth men are requested to leave shoes at the front door.

Jim Pulliam, the modest one, tells only of his and Louise's little Sally, 8, and David, 3. The true fact is that Jim is a very promising and successful architect in his native southern California.

Bob Norris has his own retail hardware business in New Jersey, sees a lot of Jim VonRohr, Dave Weld, Rog Lochead and CharlieFurness. The Norrises have three boys, Robert, 5, Randolph, 3½, and Gregory, 2.

A few items from the Bay State and away we go. The John Aldens had a new baby boy Peter in February. They're living in Needham. Ralph Hersey was promoted to Trust Officer with the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Co. Ralph doesn't neglect his community of Norwood where he is vice president of the Community Chest and the Young GOP Town Committee. He is also treasurer of Shady Arbor Civic and Social Association. BobMcDonald is now head clerk in the D.A.'s office at Andover, Mass., for Essex County. Bob got his law degree from B.U. At Harvard, JoeSchacter received his Ph.D. degree.

A last-minute flash from Texas. Gloria andHal Dowman send news of their fourth little girl, Sally Ann. When they get near to marrying age, Bo, I know a guy who sells ladders cheap.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES... If your neighborhood is like mine, it looks like our nation is loaded with "Bushy Haired Davey Crockett Intruders." Now is the time to pull out that old retreaded Raccoon coat, the market is at an all-time high. Bye now - don't forget the Alumni Fund.
