The old Ledyard Canoe boys would call this "white water" season, and old Jack Whitman and crew will be coming at you with that big important Alumni Drive. You readers don't need prodding, but if you see any of the gang, please talk it up. We should be the "best in show" this year. We are the biggest so let's be the mostest. Your hard-to-come-by bucks never went to a better effort - DARTMOUTH.
A really swell letter from Ted Fajen brings news of Patty and Faj's little girl, Alice, born last April. Mrs. Faj was Patty Kiechhefer, Smith '48. Ted was a manufacturer's agent in Milwaukee for 4½ Years. Now, he is on the sales staff of that "Champagne of Beers," Miller's High Life. Faj is evidently the real country squire. He now owns a brace of Labrador Retrievers for duck hunting and field trials. All this needs shelter and Faj tells of their new home in the "sticks." Moving westward to the Coast, a splendid director of "Dartmouth Men of Northern California and Nevada" has been prepared and it reveals great news of '46. Bob Brodie is teaching in Campbell, Calif. Don Alvarez is quite properly with the Marathon Corp., as a sales representative out of San Mateo. That Marathon and Don's skating strike a familiar bell. Big Ed Brunhoff is district manager for the Ludman Corp. and is also living in the warm delightful San Mateo. Homer Chaney is work- ing for his Ph.D. in history at Stanford Lm- versity. Curiously his address is Yale Street. Hal Ellis is also a student at Stanford. And to make it complete Bernie Wexler is an in- structor in the Anatomy Dept. May we have your "Christine" comments, Wex. The pitch about this fine school being the "Dartmouth of the West" seems to be attracting our worthy classmates. At Alameda Hos- pital Ray Gallagher answers to "Doctor" over the P.A. I can't resist this alliteration —it s the legal Luther Leeger, lawyer in San Fran- cisco. Luther is living over in Berkeley and taking that "A" train to Bush Street for his practice. That pleasing municipality of Palo Alto is being administered by our own GeorgeMorgan. You'll remember barefoot TedSouth-worth, the vagabond. I notice his ad- dress reads Route 1, Carmel Valley, Calif. Ted appreciates life. Marion Carter is a Trimmer with the Star Display Cos., in Redwood City.
Deep in Dallas, Texas, a nice note was prepared by Dave Clarke. Dave tells of his coming marriage to Mary Dudenhoefer in April. Mary graduated from Marymount in Los Angeles and also attended the U of Wisconsin. Dave is pushing mortgages for the Travelers Insurance Co., and he reports that the Dartmouth Club of Dallas is somewhat inactive, but building plans are on the agenda. Dr. MelJohnson from Mardi Gras town tells of his specializing in internal medicine at Tulane and Charity Hospital. Mel married a Smith girl, calls her a "Yankee" but gives not her name. Jim Dolby booms in from Schenectady, N. Y., with news of second baby, Beth Louise. T. Coleman Andrews is back practicing accounting with what was his dad s firm. You 'll remember that Mr. Andrews Sr. is Ike's Commissioner of Internal Revenue. John Porter gives us the word on his job as purchasing agent for the Apex Rubber Co. at Pawtucket, R. I. John and his wife Joan have two children - Jack, 3½ and Nancy, 1 year old. They live in Rumford, R. I.
Ah, that crazy spring weather. Here's wonderful, but earth-shaking wedding news. That strong bachelor hold-out, Joe Donahue, is engaged to the lovely colleen, Eileen McGuire from Lowell, Mass. Congratulations Joe! She graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music and is a member of the Officers Alumnae. Joe finished B.U. Law School and has commenced his career. They plan an autumn wedding. While we're still reeling from that one, here's Whitey Campbell all married. This unexpected information gives no other details. Whitey, tell us the complete story. From Baltimore in a big Hudson convertible, Whitey sells the South, Union Bags, and uses his golf bag frequently. Vassar girl Edith Furst is engaged to BillHowell who is in business in Chicago; a spring wedding is coming up. Doctor Mike Stein is engaged to Wellesley graduate, June Alpert. Mike is an interne at Joseph H. Pratt Diagnostic Hospital. More medical men marrying - Dr. Dick Bohn is engaged to Pat Nichols of New York. Dick is a resident radiologist at St. Luke's. Pat is with Time. Ross Bacon and Phyllis Clark were married last January in Nutley, N. J., and had the big reception at the Robin Hood Inn. The Bacons honeymooned on skiis at Mont Tremblant and now live in Drexel Hill, Pa. It was good news to hear that Dr. Guy Van Syckle is home from Korea. He and Janice Bickford announced their engagement. Janice is a nurse at the Hartford Hospital. Guy has a residency in radiology at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Cape Codders, attention please. Steve Weeks has his fine Dartmouth hat in the ring for the office of Selectman and Assessor of the Town of Harwich. That's a splendid town and deserves the proper guidance of the civic minded Steve Weeks. Ralph Hersey was recently upped to trust officer of the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Co. Ralph and Edith have two children and live in Norwood, Mass. The Air Force recently added to Bob Grant's many laurels a scroll of appreciation for his composition, My Evening Prayer. Bob is still in the Cushing VA Hospital.
The Alumni Fund is important. You know it, so support it.
