December 1956 WILL A. CHARLES

I received an interesting letter from Prof. Gerould. He did not say very much about himself, but stated that he was very much interested in the development of the Hopkins Center and its relation to Wilson Hall, the College Library in our time. It must have been a very interesting experience to have lived in Hanover, as Prof. Gerould has done, through the years from 1890 to the present time and in a way to have been a part of the growth of the College, from the Institution as we knew it, to what it is today.

During my visit to Gettysburg this summer, the guide told us a true story which I think is not widely known. He pointed to a house where the only civilian was killed during the battle. A woman was baking bread and a bullet came through the side of the house and struck her in the back wounding her fatally.
