In order to give space to the statistics of the recent Alumni Fund Drive in this issue, it has been suggested that we withhold unnecessary chatter in order to save space. We shall comply.
We are again saddened by two more death notices. Ed Smallman died in Hyannis on September 15. He had been in poor health for some time. Ed transferred to Dartmouth from Norwich. On the Cape, he was a neighbor of Howard Cowee who saw him frequently. He Was a good Dartmouth man, always interested and co-operative in any Dartmouth event. The other death was that of Herb Thomas whom many will remember as a big and prominent athlete from Williston. Herb was with us for only a part of our Freshman year when he went to the west coast and became a successful sheep raiser. We have only recently heard that he was killed in an automobile accident on August 25 in Rupert, Idaho. He had two sons who were lost in the last war.
To write of more pleasant things, Bill andLeila Knight and her sister spent a week in Hanover at the time of the Holy Cross game where they held reunion with Mike Stearns,General Knox and Art and Pauline O'Shea,Larry Tread way and Allan Perkins. Bill was on his annual pilgrimage east which always comes at football time.
Park Stickney enjoyed his first hospital experience with an operation for hernia. This was in mid October and you will be glad to know that he came through all right and by now is better than ever. Thus the scalpel club gets another member — and a good one.
At this writing Larry and Dorothy Symmes are in Mexico, stopping en route to the Coast to visit their children there.
