DARTMOUTH STANDS OUT

An interesting study at the close of the last college year should be a matter of great pride to Dartmouth alumni. It concerns the amount of voluntary financial support given to their alma maters by the alumni of 65 of the leading private universities of the country during the last college year. Here are the figures.

"In seven categories concerned with alumni giving Dartmouth is among the top leaders, ranking tenth in alumni trustee support, seventh in number of living donors to alumni funds, sixth in amount received from alumni bequests, fifth in alumni dollar giving (exclusive of trustee giving and of bequest and estate planning giving), fifth in grand total alumni support, third in amount received from alumni estate planning, and first in per cent effectiveness in alumni fund giving (participation)."

Remembering that 65 leading universities are compared and that Harvard, Yale and Cornell, for instance, have alumni bodies two and a half to four times the size of Dartmouth's, our dollar support from alumni is most impressive of the well-known Dartmouth spirit.

"It is, Sirs, as I have said, a small college but there are those who love it."

The next canto will come from Vero Beach where I trust more news may be available than from this corner.

Word has been received of the passing of another classmate and another cause for sorrow. Arthur D. Weston died at his home in Edgartown, Mass., December 19. He was a former deputy Health Commissioner for the state of Massachusetts and served on other important state commissions. Further details will appear later.
