Secretary, Middlesex School, Concord, Mass.
Treasurer, R.D. 1, Stoney Ridge Rd., Avon, Ohio
Greetings again from Concord, Mass., by the "rude bridge" and the parched fields. Ready for another year of news, notices, and nonsense? The Class of 1945 has proven itself a busy one; prolific in progeny, propaganda, improvement, peregrination, and performance. It is my duty to record such doings on this sheet and pass them on to you. It is a pleasure to serve in such a capacity.
As is usual at this time, my files, having benefited from a three months summer layoff, are, like their proprietor, bulging in unaccustomed manner; indeed, a pleasant sensation. Without more ado, here is what I have gleaned from the presses and pamphlets now in my possession.
Time magazine, as you may have seen, printed a complimentary review of EvanConnell's newly published collection of short stories entitled "The Anatomy Lesson and Other Stories." The magazine's usually critical reviewer was quite pleased with Ev's work and felt that he showed great future promise.
Roger Brown, his wife Barbara, and James Capps have founded a new concern in Syracuse, Food Services Corp., for contractual services to institutional, commercial, and industrial establishments. The new firm will provide consultation, operating supervisorship or conduct of independent concessions in the food service field on premises of clients. Rog is President, Barbara, vice-president of the up and coming operation. Best wishes from the Class, Rog.
Dick Kendall has been appointed Director of Personnel for the Union Mutual Life Insurance Co. With eight children, personnel direction should be right down his line.
Minute Corporation has elected HowardBrundage a director. Howie is an associate with J. H. Whitney & Co., and has been assistant to the president of Minute Maid since March: Ev Goltra received a degree of MPH Cum Laude from Harvard in June. A bit of research into the meaning of the degree elicited nothing. Enlighten me, Ev, as to its technicalities and congratulations on the honor. Gil Jones has thrown his chapeau into the political ring in Utica, running for supervisor in the Sept. 10 Republican primary. Gil, a native Utican, has served four years as ward chairman and is treasurer and assistant manager of the Utica Duxbak Corp. He and wife Betty have three children. George Rice, Ph.D., has joined the faculty of Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga., as professor and chairman of the psychology department. George's Ph.D. is from Penn State. John Jennings has been named general sales manager of Noreen, Inc., of Denver, manufacturers of nationally distributed cosmetics.
Frank Biggs, city editor of the Claremont Daily Eagle for the past three years, has taken over the management of the Smith, Kline and French pharmaceutical laboratories company newspaper. Frank's work in Claremont was outstanding and his editorship received national recognition in the form of four Associated Press awards for story series.
The Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. has announced the appointment of ArtNichols as methods coordinator of the Planning Department. Lan MacKinnon, M.D., practicing internal medicine, may now be found at 1005 E. Farmington Ave., West Hartford, Conn. Howie Sawyer has been promoted to major in the U. S. Army Reserve.
There's more but it will have to wait until next month for this issue as you can see is a crowded one with little extra space. Keep reading, though, I'll get to your name eventually. Better still, rather than waiting, send me your news. I'll be everlastingly grateful.
Expect a note from Treasurer R. D. Oldfield one of these days and be sympathetic. He's doing a fine job for you.
Richard G. Kendall '45 has been named Director of Personnel lor the Union MutualLife Insurance Co., Portland, Me. He is atrustee of the Maine State Retirement Systemand former head of the Maine State Personnel Board.
