Redman Retires as Club Manager
October 1951

Edward B. (Ned) Redman '06, manager of the Dartmouth Club of New York for the past twenty years, retired from this alumni post on July 1. At a testimonial luncheon at the Club on June 27, some of his many Dartmouth friends feted him and expressed thanks for the exceptional and faithful service he has rendered for so long to thousands of Dartmouth men either residing in the New York metropolitan area or visiting there.

Classmate Thurlow Gordon '06 said, "It would be impossible to estimate how many hours Ned has devoted to the College and the Club's service - but I am sure that he has enjoyed every minute of it. The College owes its greatness to the devotion of men like Ned."

Before becoming manager of the Dartmouth Club of New York, Ned had a successful career with Western Electric, the Hearst papers, and as Executive Director of the American Red Cross. He was one of those who helped establish the first club, and when, at the outset of World War II, it proved financially impossible to continue in the Morgan House on East 38th Street, he was instrumental in arranging with the Princeton Club for the rental of present headquarters at 37 East 39th Street. In recent years he has been manager of the Princeton Club as well.

When Ned Redman, who is 1906 class secretary, was honored last year as Class Secretary of the Year, his citation read, in part: "You are the old friend who has, year by year, somehow moved more and more of Hanover into New York City. It is the Dartmouth fellowship we are thinking of: that is what you have nurtured for us to enjoy."

James McKeon, formerly assistant manager, has succeeded Ned Redman as man ager of the Dartmouth Club of New York.
