It appears that '07 men and their wives are seeking and finding new homes, presumably for their retirement years. The following reports will indicate the trend.

Ben Washburn, who retired last year from his bishopric home and responsibilities, is now residing at White Birch Road, Ridgefield, Conn. Al Farrier, recently retired, has moved from Sussex, N. J., to Clifton Boulevard, Clifton, N. J. Loyal T. Sprague, who for many years made his home in Peoria, Ill., is now living at 231 Harrison Road, Pelgram Farm, Bartonville, Ill.

Herb Mitchell seems not to have retired, but he does have a new suburban address in place of his former Chicago address. He now prefers to have his mail addressed: c/o LaGrange Federal Savings and Loan Association, 1 North LaGrange Road, LaGrange, Ill. Herb should not be criticized for postponing retirement, since he ranks as the youngest, or one of the youngest, men in our class.

Dwight Hiestand is another classmate who has a new address. He now makes his home at 2242 North Western Ave., Chicago, Ill. Born in Chicago and having entered Dartmouth from Lake View High School in that city, he has now returned to his native habitat. This does not mean that Dwight has retired, or that he plans to make Chicago his permanent home. A brief résumé of his record suggests that he does not think in terms of a permanent home. A condensed review of his record since 1907 strongly suggests that Dwight's life has been one of movement and accomplishment to an unusual degree. It seems to your secretary that his classmates will find his career unusual and very interesting.

Most '07 men will remember Dwight as an outstanding student during his Dartmouth years. For example, he was a Rufus Choate Scholar in '04; and attained Phi Beta Kappa rank on his four years' record. He also received honor ranking in Greek and Latin. In addition to an unusually good scholastic rank, he participated in musical activities as a member of the chapel and church choirs, and in athletics as a member of the track squad.

His lifetime career has been that of a teacher, with emphasis on teaching music in latter years. From 1907 to 1921, Dwight was associated with Minnesota high schools, as teacher, principal and superintendent. From 1921 to 1948, when he "retired," he served in schools in the Philippine Islands, in Alabama, and in Puerto Rico, and in the editorial department of a San Juan, Puerto Rico, newspaper. During his Puerto Rico career, Dwight taught music full-time in the Central High School, and directed numerous operatic productions.

He married a Duluth, Minn., girl in 1911 Four children were born to them.

It seems unlikely that this classmate has become inactive in view of his history, and every effort will be made to learn what Dwieht's interests are since he has returned to Chicago.

It is a pleasure to report that classmate Hobbs Knight has received appropriate recognition for his years of service extending from 1911 to 1954, as a member of the Physics Department at Tufts College. Having been told in 1911 that his employment was temporary, it is good to know that he carried on as instructor and professor for about 44 years.

The recognition was initiated by Hobbs' daughter, Esther, who felt certain that her dad deserved it, so she did something about it. She established two N. Hobbs Knight scholarships in physics, to be awarded each year to the two students who had demonstrated outstanding ability in theoretical and experimental physics. The first awards were made this year. Congratulations to Hobbs and to Esther seem to be very much in order!

Now, how about some fun!

A snapshot taken in Hanover between 1904 and 1907 is reproduced with these notes. The game is to name the three classmates who appear in the picture. Send your answers to your Class Secretary, and the winner will at least receive an Honorable Mention!

The 1907 class secretary, not saying whether he knows, asks for the identity of these men.
