Almost to dead line, my only contact with the class was with Charlie Batch elder, but you always get his annual message, too. Please do not pressure him for a second contact. Charlie does such a good job for us, and deserves your prompt response.
We were pleasure-bent at Huntington, Long Island where Stacey Perrine was born September 10. Thanks to Johnnie Palmer's reunion directory, I had such a nice visit with Howard Bowman, now retired. We gassed a bit about the class and it was fun. You know, Howard is one of the Brockton triumvirate. The other two - Runt Kingman and Bob Dunbar — were with us at reunion. It was so nice to chat with the Bowmans.
Then on return to the pleasant setting at Candlewood, the roof fell in. A big box from Penny Aborn contained all of the 1914 records, including the scrapbook, as yet untouched. Also, Penny advises that Mart Remsen has been in the hospital and that Ken Grant is getting set for a winter in Florida. Penny will check all this, and more, when he is in Hanover for the opening game.
In the same mail, there was a second reminder that this job can be bad, because it requires coverage of obituaries. This age of ours is nice, except when we lose so many of our best friends.
Gordon Sleeper advises that we lost Rudolph Von Lenz on August 28. He finally lost out with a long siege of pulmonary emphysema. He had been retired as Executive Vice-President of General Dyestuff Corporation since 1952. Details later. Chapges of address:
